Time of day for Orgovyx

DianeMax profile image
44 Replies

My husband is going to begin taking Orgovyx. He takes high blood medication, both Amlodipine and Metoprolol. He takes them each at approx 830 am each morning. We have asked his doctors if he should space out his blood pressure meds and the Orgovyx, but the doctors don’t seem to have an opinion on that. Do any of you wonderful warriors have experience with this? We also wondered if the pill would be taken in the evening, would the side effects hinder his sleep? Thank you!

hi.

My dad takes the exact same medicines - all 3

He takes the orgovyx empty stomach as soon as he gets up. I read online that Relugolix is better absorbed empty stomach , though doctors say one can have it with or without food.

The blood pressure medicines he takes around 9.30 am

Also takes xtandi - before sleeping

Is the Orgovyx expensive in the area you live in?

No. I stay in India. It’s much cheaper than in USA

Where in India is a good place to buy it?

Any local pharmacy is ok. I buy it directly from wholesaler so get a cheaper price

That is not necessarily true. I got mine for free thanks to the program from the manufacturer. Please do not spread on truths.

I did Orgovyx for 12 months in conjunction with high blood pressure medicine.

I asked my medical team if they had any guidance on when to take the medications. They said no, just be consistent on when.

So, I took them every night before going to bed.

No issues with sleep, just the usual side effects of little to no T.

I take mine after breakfast. Other than side-effects from depleting my testosterone, I've experienced no other ill effects. By the way, I'm taking no other medication.

I take Orgovyx after dinner. I sleep well between bathroom visits.

It's not uncommon for orgovyx to cause sleeping disturbances, in addition to that in some patients it sensitizes the bladder and causes them to have to urinate more times at night. In my case having been on it several times, I go from peeing two times a night to five times a night, and have a very difficult time getting back to sleep. Other patients I have spoken to mention the same issues. I always take the drug in the morning with my breakfast along with food. Your husband could experiment by taking it in the morning for several weeks, and then switching to the evening for several weeks and seeing what works best for him. The drug manufacturer recommends taking it at the same time of day so once you determine the best time for you you should stick with that.

I always took Orgovyx around 8 P.M. each night. It did not interfere with my sleep but I did experience mild hot flush after getting up to go to the bathroom. The side effects I experienced were as expected. I have stopped the drug on two different times. My biggest complaint was fatigue, muscle loss, joint pain and complete lack of libido. Recent visit to my cardiologist discovered cardiovascular issues that I did not have prior to taking Orgovyx for 2 1/2 years.

During that period I was on the drug I exercised just about every other day with no indications I had cardiac issues. I am not heart medications.

I take mine at9:45PM with my Metformin, tamsulosin, Rosuvastatin and Ezetimibe. Mostly so I don’t forget. Less hot flashes than Lupron, no problem sleeping 8 hours without getting up. My Left and LAD are 70% blocked, right is 60%, but it runs in the family, Lethargy less than Lupron, but might be due lots of Pickleball…..PS G9, prostate inoperable due to previous radiation and surgery 35 years ago….

Diane, I take mine in the evening, that’s just how I split up my meds. Doesn’t seem to affect my sleep or how I feel. Truthfully, once on all these meds it’s difficult to tell just how you feel at a given time. I take my BP meds in the morning—amlidopine and losartan. I take my abiraterone in the morning, although I’m about to split that between am/pm because of the nausea etc I’m getting from it. Best wishes to you and your husband.

Ask your pharmacist. Pharmacists often are more familiar with interactions with other drugs (including over-the-counter) and food.

My pharmacist told me that Orgovyx/relugolix has a 25 hour half-life, so taking at the same time every day is important. Other men using it have told me to take it on an empty stomach.

Knowing that his serum levels the drug will hit acmes and nadirs on a daily basis, timing those peaks and valleys to his natural peaks and valleys of testosterone production makes sense. (A man's natural production is early in the day...my lab will not even test a man for Testosterone after 9:30 AM.) But I don't know the details of how to plan that timing. An endocrinologist would probably know, though. You might ask your primary care doctor or oncologist if they could informally ask an endocrinologist colleague about that. It would save you a consult fee and provide your medical team with valuable information they could share with other patients.

I don't think bedtime dosing is likely to cause side-effect problems but that is just my opinion. Since a man's testosterone peaks in the morning, the testosterone suppression is probably most advantageous if he takes it a couple hours before waking (but that, of course, is impractical).

I quit Orgovyx after a couple months because I preferred to have ADT with a different agent (even before starting ADT). When I got access to that, I terminated Orgovyx (after a couple months).

Side effects I got were fairly mild, but every man will likely have different responses.

Hello,

Gleason 8, Stage 1. Been taking Orgovyx for 9 months now and have had HD radiation and then 25 sessions of EBRT. I'm having "all of the side effects", some rather troublesome: hot flashes straight from heyall ;-) Penile atrophy - what?!?!? Moobs :-( Zero libido or possibility of performance. I'm staying alive.

That said, I take my Orgovyx at bedtime with Amlodipine and 300 mg of Gabapentin. A few months ago I started having terrible leg cramps at night in the whole leg and both legs at the same time. So bad I was screaming out in pain, when I was alone. None of my Drs. could tell me what caused them though my PCP suspected the Orgovyx - said it was listed in the side effects. NOTHING help them until I added the Gabapentin - which stopped them cold. Still don't know what caused them, but very happy they've stopped - it was life threatening (I couldn't live with that pain).

Anyway, I hope this is helpful if not entertaining a bit. Good luck on the journey.

Brian

I eat a low fat breakfast (because of Zytiga) and take Orgovyx, Zitiga and Prednisone (ugh). I take all three together at approximately the same time every morning with breakfast. I also take two blood pressure meds: Losartan and Hydrochlorothiazide right after breakfast. Other than the usual side effects from the first three drugs, weight gain, lack of stamina, no additional issues.

Best of luck to you and your husband.

Hi, I believe my doctors told me that it didn't make any difference what time of day I took the orgovyx as long as I was consistent from day to day. I just took mine in the morning when it took my other pills so it was easier to remember

The only advice I received from my doctor(s) is to remember to open my mouth before I take my meds and that they're not suppositories or ear meds. This immediately told me that these Docs made it through Med School with flying colors.

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

I take my Orgo around 3pm , more interesting is I read one article that said up to 50% more effective on empty stomach, Orgovyx says with or without food. So for me I try and take it between meals. SE's are very mild few hot flashes here and there.

THose meds can be taken at any time of the day, just be consistent.

Only the ACE inhibitors and the ARB's (BP meds) have been shown to be best taken at night.
