PSA rise

I just got the results of a PSA test today. I am including PSA over time for reference. I am taking aberaterone 250 mg x 4 daily. I was expecting that after orchiectomy the PSA would continue to decrease. I know that castrate resistance is indicated only after three consecutive rises in PSA.

Is this recent rise over a little less than two months something to be concerned about? Should I just relax and see what the next one is?

Failure of abiratorone is not an indication of castrate resistance. There are other ADT drugs that may still work, i.e. xtandi, amplitude, etc.

So maybe I should do another PSA in a month or two and then ask MO about changing drugs if it goes up?

Well again I would rather see those here with more knowledge comment but yes at the least get another PSA test in 1 month I would think. Also how did the other blood markers/numbers in your blood test look aside from PSA?

When is your next appointment with your Dr.?

If it is within a month then probably it is ok to wait until then to discuss this with him or her.

all blood levels are either OK or not too far off the accepted range. ALP has been going up and down but nothing that looks horrible. Do not have another apt with MO scheduled probably should make one, it has been a while. Was getting Firm is Gone shots every month and MO visit maybe every 3 months. Has been 3 months and was probably zoomed.

Firm is Gone shots. That's a good one!

That might be what I would do. The rise in PSA may be due to the orchiectomy. The dying cancer cells are giving off PSA. You might find your PSA is lower.

You've been here awhile and I have appreciated your posts and replies. No offense or critique intended but it would be nice to have your bio on your "home page".

You know. The thing J-O-H-N always alerts members to lol.

Are you still taking magnesium. I could be wrong but I thought I read it can affect PSA.

How do the other blood markers look?

If I look at the PSA right before Orchiectomy and the PSA most recent (not the PSA right after orchiectomy) the number is similar. Could this be where your PSA is going to settle ?

Smarter heads prevail here so hopefully you will get some better feedback than what I offer.

Your PSA is stable at 3 if you round the numbers since 9/9/21.. In clinical trials I participated they rounded the PSA numbers and they did not use decimals. You have to take in considerations the error of the techniques used in measuring the PSA.

people on this group freak out if they go from .01 to .011 :) i did not think it was a big change but thought it should be going down not up. not real concerned.

tango65 profile image
tango65 in reply tospencoid2

It is not going up, it is stable at a low value which is good thing. Nothing to worry about.
