Testosterone increase after injection

I recently had my 6 month dose of Camcevi 42mg and my testosterone went from 7 t0 55 rights after the injection. My PSA remained the same at 0.1 . Is this normal for my testosterone to jump 48 points. Oncologist says he is more concerned with my PSA. Also the injection of the Camcevi was in my lower belly and let a lump. Thank you.

Is this your first shot of Leuprolide and your first ADT drug?

If so, did you take anything for T flare (ie casodex)?

If the answers are Yes and No, then this is expected, Leuprolide will initially cause your T to rise but should fully inhibit T after 5 weeks. This is only a problem on your first shot.

The lump is expected and eventually fades away. It should not be very large - about the size of a pea. You will get a new lump every injection and the nurse will alternate left and right sides of your belly.

Thank you for your reply. This was my second Camcevi injection.

Yes, it is quite normal. Leuprolide causes a big jump in testosterone.. Your pituitary reacts by shutting off all production in your testes (called "negative feedback").

Thank you for your reply. This was my second dose. Testosterone was 8 and went to 55 within a week of the injection.

Apparently, the first dose wore off too soon.

One thing to be aware of:

Up to 10% of men may not achieve strong castrate levels of T <= 20 ng/dl on Leuprolide.

I just switched to 4 month Leuprolide shots from an antagonist and I will monitor my T every 6 weeks. I will switch back if T levels are not pushed low enough.

I achieved 20 ng/dl on monthly firmagon shots and I expect the same or better result on Leuprolide.

Note: there 2 definitions of castrate level of T expected from ADT treatment. Lower is better.

older 50 ng/dl

newer 20 ng/dl

In 2015 when informing me that I immediately needed to begin ADT, my urologist explained about the initial rise in *T* that would occur but then followed by the drop to below the older castrate level. I told him straight out I did not want DRUGS but wanted to go to castrate levels the old fashioned way, I wanted to EARN IT by removing THE BOYS.

24 hours later the BOYS were gone and T<2.5ng/dL followed. 👍👍😀

I agree with you, but mentally I haven't got there.

I am mHSPC and never coming off ADT so it is something I think about.

Question! Did you donate one of the boys to Smith and the other one to Barney?

Happy Christmas to you and to whomever is on your team.

I am a bit confused. You don’t provide much info on you bio so I can’t really compare you clinical situation with others. I thought the standard of care had shifted to using ADT together with second generation androgen blockers because survival was better. What clinical situations is it ok to use just ADT.

I have seen a few articles that reported that some men get surges of testosterone levels with leuprolide on subsequent injections not only the initial infections. Although many of the micro surges still had testosterone levels below 50, some men had enough of a surge to bring them above castrate levels. The new antagonist drugs like firmagon don’t produce a testosterone surge like the agonists.

Greetings Doc,

"I am a retired PhD who specialized in dizziness and balance. I retired from the Navy."

You must have been busy as hell with sailors on a ship.

I was not in the navy, but in the army. I now walk with a cane since I've lost my balance a few times.....I am 87 years old and been fighting my war since 2002. So if you can tell me what meds I can use to control my whirling I would appreciate it..... Nothing like free doctoring.

if not, no biggie..........Thanks.

Happy Christmas.

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
