My son’s PSA rose a bit today.

My son’s last PSA three months ago was <.01 but today it was <.10.It was previously as high as 22. He’s also tertiary five.

His Mayo doctor told him to continue to test every three months, stay on current meds Lupron, Abiraterone/prednisone for another year and two months then stop meds and wait and see with lifetime testing. He had an RP last October 24 2022 for what we thought was contained prostate cancer . Two months later his PSA jumped to 22 .He’s been taking his medicine since last December January, and also completed six weeks of IMRT middle of March. I’ve attached his PSA all the way from 22 down to <.01 3 months ago. And now today’s PSA bumped up a little bit to <.10 . Should I feel happy or not. It did go up.

Thank you all very much.

If the latest PSA test shows < in front of the number you don’t need to worry.

For consistency and perhaps more reassurance you could do another ultra PSA test to see if his PSA is detectable.

In any case the < sign is the important bit.

Thanks so much. I just learned that the test three months ago was done at the lab in California whereas today it was done in Phoenix so it was definitely a different lab.

PS Thank you very much for letting me know about that<! I didn’t know that it applied to any number.

It did not go up. <0.1 ("less than .1") is the same as <0.01 ("less than .01"). It was just a different lab test.

Thank you so much TA.

I just spoke with him and learned that the previous three months test was done at UCSD and this one was done today at Phoenix Scottsdale Mayo, so it was a different lab. Thanks for reassuring me that it doesn’t make a difference and that it’s the same thing! I can feel the weight lifting!

Why do you think they sent the test to two different labs so far apart?

He now works in a different state.

Feel happy.

Thanks so much!

Very welcome. As TA stated, it really didn't change. It can be nerve racking for sure. Best wishes, Marshall.

It’s great hearing it from members who know more than I do though.

<0.1 just means it could be from 0.00 to 0.09. You might retest with a two-significant-digit test like this one for consistency’s sake.

Thanks had never heard of that lab before. I wrote to him and gave him yesterday‘s replies, and I think for now he is satisfied until the next test three months out but I’m going to keep your information.

Just clarifying, Ultalabs sells discounted tests, and the lab draw is scheduled and done at Quest or LabCorp. Best—

Thanks. I wondered who would be doing the lab test.
