Supplements that improve brain health

Declining brain health (cognition et al) is a possible SE of LT ADT.

I am on a 2 year ADT plan. Here are some supplements I take for various reasons that also are said to have brain-on-LT-ADT health benefits. (Per Dr. Google)

Creatine

Taurine

L Theanine

HMB (long chemical name)

Exercise (you can go as big as you want with exercise)

I expect to add Berberine soon

Cheers

This is interesting. I'm doing exercise and Taurine but none of the others yet. But I'm thinking of doing Berberine. I'm also doing Metformin and apparently it is closely related to Berberine - want to figure out if it's advisable to do both of the same time or not.

While we are on the topic of slightly exotic supplements against PCa, but not necessarily related to the brain, I also do cooked tomatoes for the Lycopene, Jarlsberg cheese for the K2, and walnuts for the urolithins.

As for ADT, there is ADT and there is. In other words you can have a GnRH agonist or a GnRH antagonist. Such as Lupron or Degarelix respectively. I have deliberately have stayed with Firmagon/Degarelix despite encouragement otherwise. (There are a few notes on agonists vs antagonists here but they are hard to search because they're mostly replies.)

Note that what we are discussing here is not only brain health but also cardiovascular health and they are both intimately involved.

Number one is exercise! It seems more complicated than I thought. Both aerobic and resistance training are important! And everyone seems to be an expert and uses different terms for the same thing.

Magnesium L-Threonate

Since I have a Magnesium deficiency due to Lupron.

This helps with cognitive and sleep issues.

More specific to treat MBD (minimal brain dysfunction) perhaps including that caused by ADT and "chemo-brain" are these two: A specific preparation of curcumin with high absorption called "Theracrumin" used in a few brands. And also maintaining sufficient estradiol while on ADT which is essential to maintain brain/CNS function. A low dose estradiol patch will do it.

1) exercise 2) play brain games (the old use it or lose it philosophy) I play Wordle, Connections, Waffle every day. Sometimes Quordle and/or Octordle. AARP has a section of brain games. My MO suggested a good brain site but I always forgot to go there and I can't remember the name now.

If you’re going to take Creatine to help retain muscle, make sure it’s buffered so as to not add Creatinine. Also, if going to take Berberine, make sure it’s a phytosomal version. Same goes for Quercitin. You can google why.
