QoL: Fingal's Cave

A mixed media (watercolour + oil pastel) painting from a photograph I took while sailing by the island on a recent cruise. I used just three colours of paint: lemon yellow, Payne's grey and burnt sienna, mixing the greens, browns and greys from these.

From a therapeutic point of view, I painting the cliff face in sections to reflect my journey with PCa: (a) to the far right we have the time before diagnosis, (b) then between diagnosis and failed brachiotherapy to failed surgery; (c) then follows my increasingly chaotic journey from Zytiga to Xtandi (the latter with all manner of complications), leading to the darkest part which is the looming of chemotherapy; and finally (d), the very vaguely defined section to the far left is the unknown future in coping with chemo and beyond.

I find it quite disquieting but hope you appreciate it.

I love it. I’m a bit envious of those who have your talent. Painting and playing an instrument have always been a dream for me.

As an artist...I really appreciated how you crafted this watercolor to reflect your PC journey. I like your style and the many colors infused in this piece. Art is very therapeutic so keep it up!

BrentW in reply to Enshope

I have typically thought of the background - middle ground - foreground arrangement as reflecting my journey, Enshope, with past, present and future. Present, of course, in the case means right now. Here it took a more autobiographical approach, seeing my PCa journey as being in four sections instead of three. I am touched that you appreciate my style -- in know some find it unsettling. It took me an age to find a style that said, 'This is me!'
