8 days after my dad second chemo, we noticed that injection site was red and inflamed. We went to the ER his neutrophils came back fine and he was given oral antibiotics as a precautionary measure. However we noticed this normal small bumps forming around that area.
Has anyone experience anything similar to this?

We had thought that initially as well. However the oncologist stated that wouldn't be the case as that typically happens within a day after chemo. My dads chemo was 10 days ago
I had a similar occurrence at the chemo intravenous site which took several days to fully develop and it was determined that I was allergic to the topical chlorhexidine which is routinely utilized as a topical antiseptic and disinfectant prior to the IV and I developed a severe contact dermatitis treated with an antibiotic and topical steroid cream. Since then they use only alcohol at the site with no problems. Best to you and your dad!
Your oncologist is incorrect. My husband had an extravasation 3 weeks ago - the extreme flare-up took well over a week to develop. Was at its worst about 10-14 days in. We're at day 21 now and it has only improved in the last few days.
Thank you for this information. We have made an appointment with his oncologist to see him on Monday in person. They gave him antibiotics which definitely helped with the swelling but the small bumps are still there. Did your husband have pain or high fever? Also what helped with the extravasation? Thank you
He had pain, but no fever or warmth at the site, so no infection. We were told it was pain from damaged nerves. He's on a new prescription of Cymbalta, which is supposed to hep with nerve pain, and seems to be helping some (or it's just healing!). Good luck to your dad.
Thank you, my dad doesn't have any pain unless he presses the injection site then slight uncomfortableness, no fever either however some warmth at the site for about 1-2 days. They gave him antibiotics as a precautionary measure. It seems to be getting better. Best of luck to your husband as well
On my first injection of chemo, My hand(the infusion site) became irritated. I took antibiotics and it healed soon after. I don't think I would have a lot of concern for the issue.
I have found that taking Dr. Schulze's Super Foods Ultra Powder - herbdoc.com during chemo really helped my honey. He did not even need a blood transfusion. Also He was on Better Way Health's Beta Glucan.(Dosage is 1 capsule for every 50lbs you weigh) Just some considerations. If he eats super healthy, none of these may be needed. But I found it to be supportive of my guy. Best of luck, sending hugs and love!
