Halfway through chemo with Docetaxel. PSA at 0.02 for last two measurements. Anyone aware of any supplements that may help? I am also on Lupron and darolutamide. Treating Pulmonary mets.

I know of many supplements that may interfere. Be sure to tell your oncologist before taking anything.

Which ones interfere?

Many do - almost any called an antioxidant. Others may combine with chemo to harm the liver. Labels are seldom accurate, so you have no idea what he is really taking. Stop any that are not recommended by his oncologist. This isn't something to fool around with.

I was told to avoid antioxidents during chemo & for a while after.

You can support your immune system with Transfer Point Beta-1, 3D Glucan and/or AHCC. Both supplements are well tolerated and may reduce the side effects of chemotherapy. You should talk to your oncologist before taking them.

Unusually, a supplement, Transfer Point Beta-1, 3D Glucan that has results from clinical trials on humans. Results showing immuno strengthening effects e.g for NK levels in cancer patients, section 4 figure 7, from the link below.Do you have any preferred brand? Transfer Point Inc claims that it's own brand is greatly superior to other brands, supposedly confirmed in a (independent?) laboratory.

Thanks for the post!

Here is the original article on the Natural Killer cell strengthening effects of Beta Glucan, around figure 2 page 400. Relatively small study, 32 patients, 18 with Beta Glucan, 14 control.

Transfer Point was used, as was the case in the second clinical trial that a quick search yielded. Perhaps there is much more....

when I embarked on a six month trial in 2004. “Zero supplements. If you must, tell me first. Most supplements interfere.” This from a Research and Professor at a major medical school.

The only supplement my urologic oncologist recommends is Lycopene.

Rather than receiving anecdotal supplement recommendations, I would strongly recommend that you confer with a good Naturopath. The Naturopath can review your specific situation and make recommendations that will work for your unique case. I wish you the best.

How does one determine who's a good naturopath? I have read mixed things about that field.

Good question. In my case, my Oncologist recommended the Naturopath. I was hesitant at first myself, but I have been very pleased. Initially, the Naturopath sat down with me for an hour, learned about my habits and diet and my PC and treatment. He then put together a 20 page plan for me, with specific recommendations and references to studies supporting his recommendations. I have had remarkably few side effects from my docetaxel/Lupron treatment and have been through 14 chemo sessions now. My PSA has dropped from 46 to 0.14, so I am pleased. So, in summary, start with your Oncologist...

Not a supplement, per se, but dear wife bought a juicer and made me fresh vegetables and fruits juice twice daily during nadir and once daily otherwise. I could really tell the difference in the way I felt whenever she wasn’t able to do so.

If you live in a major metropolitan area there’s generally a outlet or few to buy fresh made juices. A bit pricey for our budget but worth it in terms of the difference it made in my QOL during Chemo, IMO.
