Hi all, thank you so much for this forum! My husband has been on Eligard, Erleada and Xgeva for the past month (diagnosed in February)...has anyone had a cough as a side effect from any of these? Thank you!

Does your husband take opiate pain meds ? Opiates are a powerful antihistamine, after you have taken them for a while ( months -years ) when they wear off , they generate a strong histamine rebound which can be a nasty cough and piles of phlegm for many days.

An otc allergy medicine called chlorpheniramine makes the opiate rebound cough attack disappear magically. Use caution tho, chlorpheniramine also has a very nasty rebound effect that has much worse coughing and phlegm than the opiate SE. danged if you do, danged if you don’t. Yayahahahaya

Thank you, no histamines. He has only been on these drugs for a short time. His there drugs are Omeprazole and Atorvasatin.

That’s a good thing. Seems like earlier days are the best ones in many ways. Few people know about histamine rebound and using opiate pain killers … it can be surprisingly powerful and nasty …

I hope you’se guys find hubby a fix for all that coughing…soon !

Best wishes fellow soldiers, hang in there ….

I see in one of your responses that he is also on omeprazole. A cough is often a symptom of acids reflux. That would be my first thought, that whatever condition he is on the omeprazole for may have worsened. Conservative measures to manage that might do the job. Weight loss, avoid dairy and spice, pay attention to triggers, small meals, stay upright after meals, etc. Best of luck!

So I also developed a dry cough on Lupron and coming off it, and off it as well. Had several Covid tests which were negative. Lungs sometimes hurt from coughing.

Often had a slightly scratchy feeling which felt like back of mouth at top of throat. So now I'm wondering what's developing there. Isn't PC enough, maybe it's spread to lungs, throat?

Went to see a ear, nose, and throat doctor thinking I'd catch it early. Quickly diganosed me with silent acid reflux, silent because you don't know it's happening. I would have denied having it, no not me, I don't have that.

But that's what it was, put me on 40mg dose of perscription brand of pepcid AC and good bye cough.

What happened was a few spots on the layrnx inflamed from the acid.

Now to me it never felt as far down as the larynx (Adams apple) but it was.

Just see a ear, nose, and throat Dr to confirm or get over the counter pepcid AC at 20mg and take two, one in morning one in evening. I'm not a doctor, but that the equivalent of what I was perscribed.

I was told once effective I could try reducing to every other day, etc.

Also the generic form of pepcid AC at various strengths is very cheap using GOODRX regardless of insurance or not. Much less than over the counter prices in the US.

I had been on Lupron for years, then Eligard for 19 months when I had radiographic progression and needed to stop the Erleada and switch to a chemo/immunotherapy regimen. In the course of switching, I developed a dry cough. After a few months and a routine visit with my pulmonologist, she suggested that I was suffering from fluid retention and she put me on Lasix. When I had a followup with my cardiologist, he changed the diuretic to Torsemide. The cough is gone and I notice it when I don't take it.

Something happened to my fluid balance with either the Erleada or the chemo, and nobody had adequately explained why, but I would start with asking your PCP if a diuretic is something you could try.
