constant coughing

Good morning friends. I’ve been on Zytiga for just over 5 years. Within past 2 weeks I’ve developed a dry unproductive cough. No symptoms of a cold of flu, just a constant cough. I read that one of the many side effects from Zytiga is coughing. I dug into this and can’t find the rational. Anyone else experiencing this and if so, any suggestions on relief would be greatly appreciated. I’m scheduled for both MRI and another PSMA scan next week. Hopefully no new surprises. Thanks in advance for your consideration of this request. Happy Thanksgiving all!

Sometimes a dry, unproductive cough can be an asthmatic symptom due to an allergy. Have you tried a steroidal inhaler? It can also be a symptom of Covid-19 and a lot of other things.

Estrogen deficiency can also cause chronic cough.

Also on zytiga over 5 years, I developed a cough about 2 months ago. Used a lot of cough suppressant like tobitussin . Eventually it stopped.I did feel like it was related to meds but more likely being in public near people coughing all over each other

Benzonatate works well for chronic cough. It requires a prescription, not expensive. It’s generic but also available in brand name such as Tessalon.

A nodule in the lung can cause a dry cough.

Highly recommended a follow up on the issue and not take our opinions

I did read a theory, I think written by Richard Wassersug but can't be certain where I caught it. ADT decrease muscle mass and included in that would be or could be weakened expiratory muscles. In plain speak you can't cough hard enough for your body to expel what it's trying to expel. Again, it's a theory I read but makes sense to me. I got pneumonia last year and since took up running, cause that stuff sucked and I'm not getting it again. Aerobics would certainly help but a doctors input would be better:-)

I hear ya. That actually makes a ton of sense. I do 5 miles fast walking every day along with an hour of QiGong. Both provide deep breathing. You’re spot on that no matter how hard I cough nothing expels. My primary is treating it like a cold but I have zero symptoms. I’m giving it till tomorrow and if no improvement I’ll engage oncologist. Thanks again for your input!

We thought this was just a side effect but finally asked about it as the cough was getting worse. An x-ray was ordered. Turned out he had a lung infection that antibiotics cleared up quickly. Second time it happened, he had Covid. Don't just brush aside a persistent cough.
