ADT and hip replacement.

I had a hip replacement about 15 years ago and finished a year of ADT with my last Eligard injection at the end of 2020. Recently I have noticed pain in my affected hip and was wondering if any others have experienced similar. I suspect from the symptoms that I will need a hip surgery revision and that ADT hastened the process by weakening the bone. Any thoughts?

I had my right hip replaced 10 years ago and just had my left hip replaced 6 months ago. I have been on Lupron and Erleada for 39 months. I do not think there is any relationship between ADT and prosthetic joints. At 15 years, you may need a new hip. Check with your orthopedist.

Thanks for that. Yes, I figured its sell-by date had expired but thought I'd ask the group.

I meant to add I also had both knees replaced. I am running out of parts to replace! Although a new penis would be great! That’s about the soft and hard of it😉

Penis... Oh yes, I remember now.

It may be a possibility. Request a dexa scan to see what happened with the bone density and if you need treatment with zoledronic acid or denosumab.

Don’t guess about needing a revision! Get a Dexa scan. Have you had previous Dexa scans to compare?

ADT won’t necessarily compromise your bone density outright. Unless you are sedentary that is. How much do you exercise and what kind? Resistance training is non negotiable on ADT.

Thanks, I'm seeing my GP on Tuesday for a referral.

My left hip was replaced in 2010; I was diagnosed with stage 4 in 2020. Lupron + Erleada. No hip pain.

This may not be applicable to you, but if you're going to replace the hip see Dr. F. Boettner at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. (70 Street and First Avenue, in Manhattan). This is NOT a paid announcement...
