Am I ‘immunocompromised’ if on ADT?

I’ve been reading a lot the last week or so about a third jab for Covid for those on cancer treatments that make them immunocompromised. I’m certain that chemotherapy would count but I’m wondering if hormone suppression drugs such as Zytiga, Lupron , etc would be considered the same. Thanks for any insight!

This question has been asked a couple of times on this form...but I think the prevailing wisdom is you'll be fine if on ADT. On chemo...take extra precautions.

The opposite. They increase immunity.

Hey Allen, do you have any studies showing that? It sure would put my wife at ease, thanks.

As far as we know at this time, ADT doesn't lower your immunities.

It was once thought that ADT increased immunity to Covid 19, but that's in dispute based on recent data. See the article below:

You can also just Google "ADT Covid 19" and get the article(s).

The short answer is NO!

I’ve been on ADT since 2014 and asked every one of my doctors if any of my treatments past or present would effect my immune response and they all said no. I had radiation in 2014 and chemo in 2015 but those were so long ago I guess it wouldn’t effect my immunity but it looks like having had chemo it would qualify me for a booster which I’d be happy to get.

Technically, no. But if I were offered a third dose I'd accept.

Normal-high testosterone [T] in the male suppresses the kind of response that a woman might launch. One of the few benefits of aging is that a reduced T puts us on an equal footing. e.g. younger men with normal T do not respond to the flu shot; older men do and make the antibodies.

With ADT, we have almost no T, but there is a general effect on health over time. Nonetheless, most seem to think that androgen receptor axis-targeted [ARAT] therapies are not a concern.

I’m a heart transplant recipient. I’ve had both COVID shots. Did the blood work, and have no antigens. Awaiting next doctor appointment.

I found this article which says low testosterone may be beneficial in immunity to Covid-19cuimc.columbia.edu/news/low...

I would say to have a look at your recent blood work. In my case, I have a low WBC count but neutrophils are in line. My Onco said I was most likely fine, but I just got a 3rd shot anyway since it’s now allowed.
