Hey all. I’ve been on Lupron for about 2 years and Zytiga/prednisone for the past year. I’m metastatic, with a few bone and lymph node mets. PSA levels have dropped to no-detect for the past 6 months. Wooooot!
But I’ve dropped some weight without trying. I’m about 5’-10” and typically at about 165. I’m now down to 150 or so.
I’m looking for some dietary suggestions to help me gain some pounds. Yeah, I know weight training needs to be a part of it. Bones and all. So that means protein, but red meat is supposed to be a cancer no-no.
How to I flesh myself out a bit? Thanx!

Losing 10% of your body weight without trying is not a typical ADT side effect. Most GAIN some 5-10% (or more) without trying. Loss of T and E2 usually mean a loss in muscle mass that's more than made up for by a gain in fat mass.
It's great that you are not getting fat. But can you attribute the weight loss to a loss of appetite or to changes you have made in diet, activity, etc? Over what period of time was this loss?
It is useful to know if you have lost fat, muscle or both.
I use body composition analysis to track my exercise and ADT impacts. As I knew I would restart ADT this month, I benchmarked myself 3 months ago and again last week. In between I worked to lose weight and gain muscle mass, so amongst other efforts I doubled my upper body workouts. My weight dropped but so did my my upper body muscle! My consultant concluded my morning workouts on an empty stomach were consuming muscle. Fix is to eat a banana prior to the workout.
My message is that knowledge avoids blundering in the dark. What if you lost (by mass) 20% muscle and had gained 10% fat. Just using diet to add weight would not be the answer.
I see that you use creatine supplement. I have waivered whether to use or not. When I have used i thought it helped with muscle tone...stopped because my kidney creatine numbers were a little high. You thoughts and your oncologist thoughts on using
I am mindful of the impact on kidneys. iF my blood test would show a red flag I would stop , No question. But so far it's been ok. Got to follow the cycling protocol scrupulously
I am combating muscle loss by lifting weights 4 to 5 days a week and consume tons of protein. My shake that I consume twice a day consists of a mass builder, bone broth, creatine, and dry peanut butter. I will lose some of the weight when I drop calories to 1200-1300 a day in a couple of months.
What helped me when I lost weight due to cutting almost everything out of my diet, for fear of feeding my cancer, was to consult with a nutritionist and using a weight loss calorie tracking app on my phone (i could never find a weight gain app!) to ensure I was getting enough calories. Best of luck
First of all change your I.D. to "more instead of less".... Mostly everyone here gains weight and has trouble losing it. So for you drink malted milks with ice cream every day... and if you don't want them mail them to me...........Chocolate chip ice cream (two scoops)...
