I suspect I'm not the only one here with Stage 4 PCa and beginning age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Most ophthalmologists recommend that folks with AMD take the AREDS2 supplements, which were shown in NIH trials to slow AMD progression in some cases. FYI, the AREDS2 formula is:
500 mg vitamin C
400 IU vitamin E
10 mg lutein
2 mg zeaxanthin
80 mg zinc
2 mg copper
NIH literature refers to this as a high dose of anti-oxidants.
Finally, here is my question for those of you that know more about supplements than I do. I see warnings that anti-oxidants may be problematic for men with advanced PCa. For example, Tall Allen (replying to a green tea discussion) recently said, "Be careful with antioxidants. Oxidation is how the body rids itself of cancers and precancerous cells, and how the immune system destroys cancer." Should I be taking the AREDS2 formula?

Yes..the spice...Saffron. Saffron has carotenoids and other substances which are reported to delay macular degeneration and have some anti cancer effect. For details..see my old post.
I was diagnosed with AMD years ago - long before I discovered I had Metastatic Pca. I take 1 Macushield capsule daily. The ingredients are:-157mg Marigold extract
10mg Meso-zeaxanthin
10mg Lutein
2mg Zeaxanthin
Does the Macushield work? I can only say that my AMD was in an early stage and has not got any worse. My mother had Glaucoma - I am not taking any chances with my eyesight.
My Onco saw no problems with me taking Macushield, and I cannot say it has had a detrimental effect on me. My PSA was 148 in March 2019 when I was diagnosed with Pca. By June of that year it had reduced to 1.88 by ADT alone. By the time my chemo finished in October 2019, my PSA was undetectable. Since then it has barely increased and is now 0.18.
