IMPROVED RESPONSE TO ADT thanks to you all and your feedback

I reported severe depression and "brain fog" on ADT a couple of months ago. Here's what has REALLY worked for me, based on your feedback. THANKS TO THIS GROUP!

Switched from 6-month Lupron depot shots to monthly Degarelix shots. (Degarelix is only available in 1 month shots). Degarelix does NOT give me the brain fog that Lupron used to give.

Increased my Lexapro (depression medicine) from 10 mg to 20 mg daily.

Exercising 6 days per week, instead of 4. The regime includes 4 days aerobics (bike or elliptical) and 2 days per week of weight training, thanks to London441. Weight training helps my head. I don't know why.

16/8 intermediate fasting diet. Eating much more fish. OK, I cheat at night. But I've reduced (not eliminated) my beloved carbs. Very little pasta, bread and no pizza and not a lot of sweet stuff.

Magnus had said "get more sleep." I'm going to bed 1/2 hour to 1 hour earlier now.

I'm crying far less now! I've even had some good days. Aodh had said "Don't move to Ireland, since the minimum ADT duration there for high risk Pca is 3 years." My doc wanted me to do 2 years minimum. But now, I'm seriously considering to extend voluntarily beyond the 2 years, for potential added benefit.

This is great news. If you like your pasta. Try switching to lentil or chick pea pasta. I like the Barilla brand the best. I enjoy the taste and texture ( I'm keen on el dente my self) and the nutrition profile is much better.

I do the same things as you except I lift and do cardio everyday.

Lentils are anti cancer foods...because Mung lentils(beans) suppresses Interleukin 6 and other bad cytokines thus slows cancer cell growth.

I agree with you wholeheartedly.Lentils are also a sources of phytoestrogens as well and there is this constant back and forth about the effect of phytoestrogens and pca.

Consumed in moderate amounts is positive for fighting cancer.

I’ve been adding something called ‘Benevolent bacon’ to my soups, it’s plant based with a good hickory smoky flavor

in reply toBruceSF

Is SF short for San Francisco?

If it is, I gonna bust your balz

😀

I'll check out that Benevolent Bacon. Who ever though that Benevolent would proceed bacon 🥓. I do miss my bacon. Everything tastes better with bacon, right?

Thanks LearnAll. I used to like Lentil soup when I was a kid, but haven't had any for years. I'll try making it again. Ah ok, but with some chunks of seared pork belly in it; I can't help myself!!! Thanks for the advice.

I’ve been adding something called ‘Benevolent bacon’ to my soups, it’s plant based with a good hickory smoky flavor, got it at organic grocery. Soyrizo is good too!

Hey Bruce, thanks for the comments! Frankly, I never thought I'd try these plant-based products before, but I've had so many good suggestions from you and others in this group that I'm going to try it! If it has "bacon" in the name, it has to be good. I'll try the soyrizo as well. I'll look first at Trader Joe's. Cheers and thanks!

Hey Bruce, thank you again for the suggestion of plant based "meats." I bought some yesterday, let's see how it goes! Thanks.

Thanks XP, I remember reading some of your posts, you're GOAT when it comes to the diet an exercise routines. I remember you said you eat only 1500 calories per day and you do some healthy "smoothie" shakes with nutrients. People like you, London441, Magnus, Tall Allen and Aodh inspire me to reach for higher levels of performance.

As to chick pea and lentil pasta, I tried it and did not have the same positive reaction as you. But there's still some in the cabinet, I'll try it again, Al dente. With chunks of lightly seared tuna, chopped green+kalamata olives, olive oil, chopped capers and a touch 'o garlic. OH MY!!! Thanks

in reply toA0007720

You just made me hungary. And now I have a recipe to use my capers. I bought a couple jars but haven't found a decent recipe to use them. I have some fresh caught tuna steaks in my freezer. I'm going to break one out this week.

Thanks!

We eat capers in my home made salad dressing and soups almost daily. Never thought of chopping them though.

Care to share that salad dressing recipe?

Its spicy and I don't have exact amounts but here are the ingredients: cholula hot sauce, olive oil , white or balsamic vinegar, dijon mustard, capers, miso, sambal chili paste, yogurt.

in reply totreedown

Cool thanks. I'm assuming the yogurt is plain.

Correct I have used regular and Greek with equal success, but it is thicker with Greek. We like our food spicy hot so this is just a reflection of that. Our salads consist mostly of braising greens as opposed to ml lettuce.

How do you regard carbs such as whole grain groats (buckwheat, oats, barley, amaranth) and whole fruits and veggies? The same as bread, pasta, pizza, or OK to consume?

A0007720 profile image
A0007720 in reply todhccpa

Hey Dhccpa, Thanks for your suggestions. You're far more advanced than I so can't really judge. I do eat oatmeal from time to time, lots of vegetables, and 1 piece of fruit per day. Somehow, the groats sounds good! With a touch 'o brown sugar, and a few raisins and some nonfat milk! Oh my! Cheers.

I ask because a number of posters, not only here, seem to lump all carbs together, when there are distinct categories, including sugars (refined and unrefined). Somehow they all get lumped in one (usually bad) reference. Carry on!

Good regimen = good results. But don’t move to Ireland unless you have a return ticket. 😆

Thanks for your reply John. Yeah, I can't even keep iced cream in the house. I'm an animal. Before prostate cancer, I used to eat whole pints of Ben and Jerry's in one sitting, just looking at the TV.

But your recommendation of the chocolate chip...well...A man is entitled to dream! Thank you John.
