Some of you may already know and use this but I thought it was worth mentioning. In recent times researchers have found that immersive VR is a potent pain reducer and a powerful anxiety reducing tool as well. My wife worked for the UCSF Medical Center ...S.F. As a physician’s Liaison. In the course of a year she also presented at major medical conferences in California and around the country. One of the biggest draws that generated long lines was the medical centers Pediatric virtual reality product. It is a tool that is used for both pediatric patients and their families before surgery and for inpatient pain management. You can google “ UCSF Benioff children’s Hospital Virtual reality pain management program “ and for general info google “ virtual reality in pain management “ for a general look.
The children’s Hospital application was novel .... UCSF , for brain surgery children , made VR realities of the entire view of their brain that you could move through .... the clinicians showed both the parents and children what was wrong and how they were going to fix it .... plus it is an invaluable tool for surgeons as well...allowing unprecedented views of the brain , what was wrong and the best way to fix it.
That’s another part of this you can look at, but I wanted to mention the pain management part . I figured that if it works for kids for pain control, why not me ? So ..... I bought a oculus quest VR set ( there are many others but I know this one works for me ) and got a few mystery puzzle games I can do sitting down ( Red Matter, Dark Matter, Shadow Quest, down a rabbit hole er ) . These games in a VR headset are “ absolutely “ immersive .... they work with glasses and the headset I mentioned works for people with big heads ( me ) ... wide IPD. The effect of VR is so absolute that you quickly believe you are in the reality you have chosen and you completely lose track of the real world. For me, they are astonishingly effective at eliminating pain. They can make 6 -7 pain magically disappear and if you are getting those 9-10 stabbing shot pain, they don’t make it disappear but it’s diminished dramatically.
Some days I wake up and struggle to get out of bed , I’m so trashed and uncomfortable all over that I wish I could just cancel today and hope I feel better tomorrow. Of course I can eat more opiate pain killers, but a lot of the time I just don’t want too ... I get real sick of those. So ...... now I take my morning boatload of meds and supplements and struggle over to my couch and strap n the headset ( not going anywhere anyway with Covid lockdown ) and immerse into a game. Nearly instantly my pain and general discomfort magically disappears and I feel good again. I stay in there for one or two hours and I feel dramatically better when I come out.
No only am I able to use far less pain meds , I feel much better generally and had a lot of fun getting there. var is serious entertainment and fun. Just a few days ago, I used a app that allowed me to walk around my old and family neighborhoods that I lived at 60 years ago .... that same time I visited the pyramids, Eiffel tower, beach’s in the Caribbean and numerous other places. With immersive VR , it’s about as real as you can get .... a little steel drum music and a Margarita and “ boy “ you really are sitting there on that Caribbean beach yayahahahaya ya. All the while completely oblivious to all your pain and discomfort. Works for me, thought I’d mention it so others might try it. If you don’t like it, just give the headset to your grandkids ..they’ll freak out for one of those. If they already have one, borrow it and try it out. I think you’ll be impressed. At the least VR is a great get-a-way while you are in Covid lockdown.

Very cool and who would have thought it would work for pain management. May just need it to get out of the grey of winter, a sunny beach would be pretty nice about now. I need to check out my kids asap.
Yea no kidding .... there’s another, less effective, but useful cure for the winter doldrums and cure for anxiety ...especially good if you have a big screen smart TV set or a wifi TV that you can “ cast “ to from your mobile apps. Go to YouTube and search for eScapes ..... and there is a eScapes web site too. Most people have an “ eScape “ channel on their home TV set. Just cue up a bunch of eScapes ...make it beach and metro heavy ( the night time Shanghai harbor dragon boats video a must with the flashing dragon boats ) those Thai beaches killer ... naturally adding the Panama hat, Hawaiian shirt and a Margarita machine a plus ( don’t forget those little umbrellas in the drinks ).
But the VR headset is a magical tool all of its own ...on a wholly different planet than anything else. You can get in there and not want to come out yayahahahaya yayahahahaya . They are amazing for pain management. They are already being recommended in many medical circles like UCSF Benioff , Cedars-Sinai , health line ...etc.
Sounds great . Could do with some of that, imagine we are on a beach in Goa, sun shining, cold beer in hand. instead of a cold, damp, dark day in the UK. (again)Take care D.
Interesting .... I went to a beach in Panaji, Goa, India . Beautiful. Enormous wide beaches , little dingy fishing boats brightly decorated with 3 horizontal stripes. Fishing nets in piles. People playing cricket .... lots of people by waters edge but no one in the water. Went to government house, big stuffed , rather dusty library rooms ...handouts on a table at the entrance, small courtyard with rot iron fence. Very sunny there , lots of beach go’ers.
Nice looking place that looks affordable. Yayahahahaya
Check out the sitting titles I mentioned ....if you get stuck, just remember the frustration erasing YouTube “ walkthroughs “ that show you how. Yayahahahaya
Hi Kaliber,Although I love "gadgets," unfortunately I am technologically challenged, as they say. However, I did go to the Oculus Quest 2 site to read more about the device. For one thing, they certainly know how to nickel-and-dime the consumer: memory upgrades, batteries, straps, it goes on. However, in the end, it's really not that much of an investment considering if it really does deliver on what you have written. I meditate, We are told to "sit" with our discomfort or pain. Good luck with that. Last year I purchased a Muse 2 which was about as expensive as the basic Oculus (64 GB) model. Probably will go for the 256 GB unit. Of course, I can purchase it directly from the company, but my other option is Best Buy where I might be able to play around with it and maybe get Covid-19 as a bonus. I just spent $140 on a month's supply of cannibus to help me sleep. Replacing that expense would help pay for an Oculus Quest 2 . In any case, if you don't mind, we can carry this conversation through Messenger.
I tried the one about being a bleeding heart liberal..... and thank God my wife saw me putting my Glock to my head and grabbed the gun out of my hand before I pulled the trigger.....2 1/2 minutes was enough............Glory be to God.....
At least I learned an old spiritual song "Kum ba yah" "Kum ba yah".....
Yayahahahaya don’t forget I’m a retired Buddhist priest. We aren’t political ... we don’t do red or blue or any of that at all. Its not permitted ( judgementalism ) we are equal and the same with everyone... we don’t have political opinions.
Yayahahahaya yayahahahaya. Buddhist love Jewish practitioners ... all religions in fact. Most monotheistic religions don’t think much of us tho. My deacon level catholic father-in-law loved to call me “ pagan “ ... I just called him Jack ( his name ). 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I always say that there's one thing worse than being a housewife.......... that's being a househusband......You were lucky she turned into a cashcow.......... The virus is not gonna get you..... you're too mean for it.......
BTW on tv I saw a guy (Dean Alexander?) who lives in Fresno and lights up his house with Christmas lights and etc. that would give Las Vegas lights a run for their money..... He either is filthy rich or he's tapping the electric street light outside his home.....
Yea Dean lives up on Van Ness avenue in the old money zillionares. Most of the town is new agricultural money zillionaires yayahahahaya. That’s Christmas tree lane .... it’s beautiful there every year , the zoo dos it too
Yayahahahaya.... nukes in the early 70s ... healthcare engineering field work and serious Buddhist involvement in the late 70s onward. Probably partially a guilt trip from the nuke work yayahahahaya.
I live in fresno ... the newly anointed Covid infection center of the USA. More new infections, hospitalizations and deaths here than anywhere. Woohooo
This really isn’t LaLa land like the coast. It’s very conservative farm country . Devin Nunes lives here. I can’t afford to live the lifestyle I have here, at the coast, but it’s a short drive from here. 🙂🙂🙂
Fresno ... plenty of zillionares in Clovis too ... Clovis is a western themed town. Agriculture is the engine that drives this part of California, clearly it’s astonishingly profitable..... lots of proud big money on display in many parts of this area and town. Lotsa dollars in medicine - healthcare too.
Didn’t see the movie but we have the major Hmong here. Many Hmong are very skilled boutique farmers and grow amazing varieties of exotic vegetables you never saw before.
No .... I talked my intelligent , overachiever Uber competitive wife into entering the medical world. Coached and encouraged her a little and she did what I expected and excelled. she over took me ( and chortled and loved it ) and became the major money maker.
I’m not a teacher , for me I try to concentrate in the here and now. Right here, right now is all I have ...I try to work with what I have. It’s a challenge to work with this sometimes but I try to find ways ( like a e-trike because I can’t walk much ) .. finding fun things like VR while we are in Covid lockdown ... flight sim pit... long range drone flying out of the back yard .... games - cards with the wife ...stuff that keeps you entertained and busy. No time to sit around feeling sorry for myself. Upbeat attitude.
Ok ... now I feel like I must have had too much egg nog yayahahahaya have a nice Christmas Eve with your loved ones -family brother. The reindeer are on their way to poop in J-o-h-n’ s yard already yayahahahaya. The holiday in on us I hope your health holds out for a long time.
And to you and yours..... keep your eye on that fat guy in the red suit who comes down the chimney..... He's a horny s.o.b. since he's always in a sleigh looking at shaking reindeer butts.....
it’ll be interesting to see what happens off the adt ... keep us posted.
I like sit down mystery solving games that absorb all your attention. The Room , Dark Matter takes place in the early 20th century and has a lot of kewl Egyptian related puzzles ... you are the sleuth figuring out the puzzles. Red matter takes place on another world in space at an abandoned Russian space installation.... its pretty kewl. There are zillions more, stuff for everyone of all ages.
For the other thing , my wife uses the oculus quest more than I do, sometimes she get gets so involved in the VR realities she worries me. You have to pry the thing off her head yayahahahaya. Anyway anything I did in there would be instantly obvious to her as well, having a divorce over electronic infidelity in a extremely realistic virtual world would be highly ugly ( and pretty weird ) yayahahahaya. But ...
You can search google for that topic and stunning media is available Uber XXX rated yayahahahaya. You don’t have to imagine much to see where VR can take that. You may have the original oculus quest since its been around for a couple years. The New oculus quest two just came out this Christmas. Oculus quest is untethered and communicates with your home Wi-Fi. It interacts with the oculus quest app and the mothership on your mobile device or PC. They change and improve dramatically by magnitudes ... in just a version or two.
For me , the pain relieving part is amazing and most important , but I suspect you’d be stunned with the realistic immersive effects that modern VR brings. You can’t beat them for entertainment, especially in these Covid lock down times. Stunning.
Well it’s another Christmas Eve brother and we’re still here , yayahahahaya yayahahahaya how kewl is that. I hope you have a nice Christmas with your loved ones. I’m planning to make the most of this valuable opportunity myself ... it’s hard to believe I’m still here sucking in oxygen ( such as it is ) ... I’m very thankful.
