Today I had my third infusion of Jevtana and towards the evening I had back and abdominal pain in the right lower quadrant. Prior to this, for some visceral discomfort/pain I used successfully Ibuprofen 600mg twice a day. I could sleep, walk, cook, bake. I was prescribed Tramadol 50mg., I took it a couple of times, but I went back to my Ibuprofen, which worked just fine for visceral pain. The Tramadol was recommended one pill twice a day as needed. It did not do a good job. Any suggestions?

Tramadol 50mg for pain management
tramadol doesn’t work for everyone , it’s morphine equivalent ( how pain meds are gauged ) is only slightly better than nsaids. Talk to your pcp or pain management team about this and ask them for a prescription for something like Vicodin ( hydrocodone ) or OxyContin.
Thank you! I had a very good night sleep taking twice Ibuprofen and one pill of Tramadol between them. Placed a heated pad on the area and I was fine. For as long I can manage my pain with the stuff mentioned before, I'll do it. The heavy stuff will come later. Thank you!
tranadol is good if it works for you. Better than Nsaids which can cause stomach ulcers and esp liver damage if over used. I was prescribed nsaids a couple years ago and within one month , they drove my liver enzymes to dangerous levels. If you use 1200 mg of nsaids every day ( well below the 3200 max for ibuprofen) itd still be good to keep an eye on things. Just my anecdotal perspective on things.

My husband is currently in a washout period after Docetaxel and is experiencing pain in the same area. Tramadol did nothing whereas Ibuprofen manages his pain well. Heating pads are very helpful too. Considering asking MO about Naproxen as NSAIDs work much better than the opiods for him.
Tramadol is on the low end of the opioid spectrum so it's not going to give you the relief of a stronger opioid like hydrocodone. From what I've read, Tramadol is better for nerve pain which is sometimes an issue for those of us with bone mets. Like you said, if you can get by with it, great. Save the heavier duty stuff for when you need it.
Tramadol wouldn't touch my pain from a met on my spine (neither would Ibuprofen). While I was undergoing radiation, I was up to a 75mcg Fentanyl patch and oxycoden pills. About 2 weeks after I ended radiation, the pain went away rather rapidly and I weened myself off the Fentanyl patched and later the ocycodone. No pain remains.
My partner and I are both taking blood thinner meds, which contraindicates NSAIDS. So we have Tramadol prescribed. Both of our doctors told us to always take a Tylenol (acetominifen) 500mg with each Tramadol. There is a synergetic effect between the two drugs, making the combo more effective than either as a solo drug. It works for both of us, might be worth a try for you. (For members from outside the USA, Tylenol is called 'paracetamol' in Europe and most of the rest of the world).
