Pain management

I have found a combination of naproxen sodium (NS)) and Hydromorphone (H) as needed was effective for managing cancer pain from bone metastasis. NS for pain level (PL)<3. H for pain level >3. Recently, as a result of fractured and compressed vertebrae, H continuously on a regular schedule was not enough to keep the pain tolerable (PL<3). I am now using NS daily and a 3 day Fetanyl patch and Prednisone daily continuously, with H for break through pain (>PL4) as needed. I also now keep a daily diary with dates and times of PL and pain killers I take to keep track of what I am doing. (The notes app on my I phone works well for this). This strategy seem to be working reasonably well to allow me to do my daily activities with a reasonable quality of life. I am interested in what other strategies my fellow adventurers on this journey have found effective. Please let me hear from you.

I use NS <3. Much over that, I have historically used Tramadol. That was not really cutting it recently at night, so my MedOnc has me trying Oxycodone. That has made it much easier to sleep. The Oxy makes me pretty tired, so I try to avoid it during the day.

Hi Chascri, , all my Doctors tell me to take my pain meds and use them.

I had to retire from work because I had bone mets on my chest and the pain was awfully bad

as soon as I started chemo therapy the pain in my chest went away, I now use Norco

I can also use Hydromorhone too (cannot mix these two) I also have some other things

to help calm me down to sleep, my pain level lately is on the low end of the scale

not much pain lately, I am still using chemo every three weeks I get an infusion,

it is a tough road but we must keep fighting as long as we can.

Hello MrJack, I was having pain on my right lower rib and back same area , I got the hormone shot and taking the casodex pill once a day, 50mg. the pain is mostly all gone , everytime I read about pain in certain areas I am fearful that it spread. I did a bone scan and CT scan a month ago and there was no cancer any place else

yes, I am similar, the pain went away like magic right after chemo for me, I am just about done with my chemo run I believe it will not work much longer today was my #16 I can only seeing it work about another three times, I started chemo at psa 24 my psa has gone from 24 to 3.8 at one point now I am at psa 14. the fight has just began it is a long road.

the radiation doctor told me to take B17, I said ok not thinking much about it so I went online and read about it , I was really surprise how effectiveness that was mentioned about using for a cancer regiment along with what ever protocol that the doctor has the patience following. I really didn't want to take a supplment not knowing if it really says what it is , so I research where B17 comes from, and found out it can be bought with the actual source, Apricot seeds. I guess there are small kernals inside the seed pit that are packed with B17.and can be eaten like nuts or sunflower seeds. so I order some from Ebay a bag of them. I read that eating 50 kernals a day is a good regiment and they are really small. I love unsalted sunflower seeds. I know I will enjoy them I feel if a radiation doctor recommends B17 I promised my wife I would follow and guidance from my doctors. so I am willing to do a regiment on that too with everything else to fight this terrible disease.

Thank you Chascri, I will be posting my progression on fighting my cancer and all the treatments that I will be getting. today I will be having the golden seeds inserted in my prostate.
