30 Days on Zytiga - PSA went up

Hello Warriors:

Just got the results back on my first 30 days on Zytiga added to my ADT. The PSA went from 4.6 to 7.8. Does that mean the zytiga does not work?????

Comments appreciated thanks.

Maybe. 30 days is still pretty new. If still high after another month, maybe have a bone scan/CT.

in reply toTall_Allen

I had 8 bone mets before starting Abiratone. Scans are up to date with 2 bone mets growing slightly but psa jumped from 1.8 to 4 3 months ago. I thought Abiratone would work quicker??

This may be what is called "PSA bounce" which means before going down PSA shoots up temporarily...ReCheck PSA after 2 to3 weeks.

And tceinvestment..don;t forget to buy carnival cruiseline (CUK) stock..I got some at $16 a piece.

Thanks for the info

in reply toSPEEDYX

That is really interesting I have bone meds too not too many and only a few are growing. And here I'm freaked out because my PSA hit 7.8 today the highest in my 18-year battle against the beast. You are a great role model for me with all that you've gone through.Thank you You have no idea how much this helps.

PSA went up from 11.4 to 64.3 within 2 month after starting Abiraterone+. We were very afraid that it was a failure. But then it dropped down to 3.2 over the time frame of 6 month.

Have patience it might work!

Oh thanks so much for the info.

It is too early to tell. My dad had the same upward bounce after the first month, and then again after the third month. But the oncologist said, what's important is the overall movement over three months to be downward.

My husband started Zytiga in Dec 2018. His PSA went up for three months, plateaued at 7, and then it slowly began to come down. It goes down a little every test, and he is now at .6.

in reply toForJoel

Oh that is good news. Thanks for the input

This is all really good info as i begin abiraterone in just a few days after two years with Erleada. Had to kick her to the curb. She did a good job though. Sure not looking forward to the Prednisone but you just have to take what comes your way.

in reply toPmann

Actually - no side effects from the Prednisone. I just take 5 mg a day with the Zytiga. Take a water pill for fluid retention.Good luck...

i am already on chlorthalidone ? for the same thing with Erleada.

No, it doesn’t...just like a PSA check following a biopsy - PSA’s explode - which actually mean that it’s stirring things up, it’s working; next will be the hot-flashes, which means the same thing - “it’s working!”

in reply toPlantHero

Thanks so much. I hope so.
