Just an update on my insufficiency fracture of the head of the right femur

Hi,I did have a bone scan that did not show any skeletal mets. It did show that I also had insufficiency fractures of the ilium. The pain is still with me and I have been using a walker to take weight off of the hip. That has been a challenge with the icy weather. I know that a fall would mean a shorter life span. Next week I am slated to have another Prolia injection. The docs are not certain whether to hold on that shot or not. I am just wallowing in doubt.

I share your reservations about taking any more denosumab. How bad is your osteoporosis on a DEXA scan?

I have never had a DEXA scan. I will ask my GP to order one this week. It seems that I have fallen through the cracks in the testing for my bone health. Thanks for the help.

I have had a DEXA scan and I do not have osteoporosis. I am seeing an Orthopod today about having a hip replacement done before the hospitals fill up with Covid

Then you should never have been taking denosumab. Good luck with the hip replacement.

Just an update on my new hip, It has resolved all of my hip and back pain, There was no sign of cancer in the pathology report. My prostate is blocking the urine and they found that I have an UTI, they cultured the sample and it is Klebsilia . I am scheduled for an Urolift procedure next month so I can urinate without self catheterizing

I was so relieved that there where no mets in the hip. I am sleeping much better with that news. Thanks for your help.

Forteo is a drug very effective to treat osteoporosis. It is indicated when there is high risk for fractures and it could provide an advantage in fracture healing. Forteo promotes the growth of new bone . Denosumab (Prolia) inhibits the reabsorption of bone. Perhaps you could discuss with your doctors and see what they think and if it is possible to get the insurance to pay for it.

Are you having any fractures f rom these falls ? I am using a walker. I just do not trust my balance and my right leg just wants to give out with out warning.

So far..... just falls except when I had a fight with the curb, who hit me on the back of my head (twice).... Needless to say the curb won.... Cat scan and a fractured T4,,, Please please go slowly..... better late than laid up.... my left knee likes to dip once in awhile....And when I was young I had a great sense of balance.... Take it easy...

I know what you mean. Not that many years ago, I was climbing mountains in my backyard which is Montana. All that I can do now is look at photos and reminisce . I have really slowed down. Thank you for the heads up, Roger
