Should I have more Chemo now?

My urologist confirmed that while the PCa nodes in my bladder have shrunk, they are still obstructing my ureter. Therefore, instead of removing my stent, he replaced it.

So, I finished 6 Docetaxel sessions 4 weeks ago and as I'm responding to the Chemo, Eligard and Casodex, I'm considering 4 more chemo shots between now and when I have another cystoscopy in 3 months to remove/change my stent. My thinking is that maybe more chemo will shrink the nodes in my bladder even further.

Thought's anyone? Cheers, 😎 DD.

Thanks for replying Nalakrats.

The original pathology from my prostrate biopsy made no mention of Neuroendocrine but described the tumours as Acinar Adenocarcinoma. GS 4+5=9/10 inclusive of intraductal carcinoma. Perineural infiltration present. Extraprostatic extension present. I hope this helps.

Regards, 😎DD.

While I don't have any current blood results, here is what I have regarding my Alk Phos: 28 Jan 20 (193), 17 Feb (110), 09 Mar (85) and 13 Mar (76). So trending down.

Thanks for the encouragement Nalakrats, are you able to explain what the movement of the numbers mean in relation to APCa, regards 😎 DD.

Hi,

Can someone tell me why the docetaxel standard is 6 sessions, and why some men do more than 6 sessions?

Thanks

My understanding is that 6 sessions is the norm because of the accumulative effects of the drug and the toll it takes on your wellbeing. After my 6th shot, my blood counts were really low and had to go on a course of Filgrastem to boost production of my white blood cells. I had a 7 week break and this week I will have my last Chemo session, number 9. I had more chemo in an attempt to further shrink my tumours. Each session seems to kill them a bit more, like peeling the layers of an onion. But for my cancer, chemo can only do so much, so next week I start preps for Radio Therapy to try and kill whats growing in my bladder and hopefully get my Ureteral stent out. All the best, 😎DD.
