Anyone else struggling with very high Body Mass Index (BMI), while on Lucrin?

Hi Brothers, Sisters and all wonderful Caregivers,

I am struggling with a very high BMI although I have been walking around 3-4 km on weekdays. Hahaha I mean exercising 🚶‍♂️

My profile: Dx October 2017 age 57, Did 6 Chemo infusions in 2018, been on 3 monthly Lucrin (Lupron) since Dx.

But every time I go for my inoculation, my BMI (around 28 ) stays in the high risk range. Only thing I have not tried is crunches or sit ups cause the jabs are done at my tummy area and am just afraid...to create any complications although Doc told me it’s alright to do tummy exercises 😉

The flab of fat around the tummy is looking like a spare tire...hahaha

They measure my BMI by weight x height not by any calipers to be clear here.

My very best to all ❤️

You are more likely to get benefit from a short burst of vigorous activity, IMO. Changes the blood chemistry much more than a long walk can. Less than 5 minutes on a treadmill - on the fastest & steepest settings. Or running on the spot. Don't overdo it.

Hi Patrick

Will try to include circuit intervals into my exercise regime brother. But it’s just that with the ADT it really fatigues me quite easily 🥴

Thanks for the interesting idea.

Take good care brother ❤️

Haniif I was in chronic fatique syndrome for three years first on lupron and still tak -700. I choose orchiectomy to drop the lupron for the past 3 yrs . I had times that I’d sleep for a few days at a time. I pulled out of it somehow. I hope the same for you . It helps to have a partner or friend to light a fire under you ass to get up and go regularly . My wife made sure I got up. And we hike together as much as possible ... you do need to shed that belly fat . That’s ripe for heart attach . I don’t want that for you . My veins are so small that they struggle to find them for blood work. What’s does that say about my heart ? Not good I promise you . Take care Amigo! 🤙🏽

Hey Scot, I too have very hard to find veins. It’s always a nightmare for the nurses to find my vein for bloodwork 🤦🏼‍♂️

My wife does her best to remind me but I do tend to be lazy at times...

But going to work real hard this time around

🤞❤️

My wife says it like it is . I can be a loafer for sure. I’m watching a pretty good movie right now .A murder mystery “ Knifes out” a lot of folks in this country inside until this ends. I can walk out my back foot into unlimited forest with nobody insight. I can bike or hike . That’s our thing . My veins were prominent. Now invisible. Se la ve , there goes me , my body is shot . I limp along ok at times . Other times I’m lethargic.. your not alone . I have 3t also . Whooohoo ! it’s a different life . As long as we give and receive love I’m sticking it out . But I believe in God’s Will ... I’m in no hurry to meet my maker today but when the time comes it’s a fulfillment of life’s work.

Well said, my brother! Yup nothing like a spin around Nature. Enjoy the movie. Myself have been binging on Netflix and Prime Amazon. Let’s enjoy a little while we keep on, moving on in our lives. Have faith and let Life play out it’s cards...All will be great😊

3-4 kms per week is not enough. That is only about 45 minutes total.

You want to be doing 150 minutes a week. Brisk walking where you are actually puffing is far more effectual than a gentle stroll in the park, which probably does not do much at all.

I am neither an advocate of the keto diet nor a stringent plant-based diet, but they are both short term solutions to weight loss.

Haniff in reply toPleroma

Hi Pleroma

Yes you’re right. Must huff and puff more, ok will increase my exercise time total per week

Thanks 😊 for the sporty advice Brother

COUNT Calories..thats the most important thing to do to bring BMI to 22 or less. Excercise alone can not do it.

Haniff in reply toLearnAll

Thank you Brother

Appreciate your advice

Even fasting two five hundred calorie days per week could help also . 🤙🏽

Yes Nalakrats

I guess I really have to work my butt off.

Will do it with more effort and determination, and be eating salads and more from now.

I reduced BMI drastically in only a few month (190 lb to 150 lb) by doing calorie-restricted keto, with a short window for eating. The keto part is probably not needed, but at least reduce high-glycemic carbs. I tried to keep all my calorie intake within a 4-6 hour window, finishing before 5 pm. (My biggest problem has always been night-eating of carbs and alcohol, which I thinks is the quickest path to adding and keeping too much fat.)

Exercise is important for muscle mass, but you won't likely make a big dent in BMI by increasing exercise without a more strict approach to diet, too. I would like to return to a full-on keto, but it's a challenge. Food is too good.

Haniff in reply tonoahware

Hi noahware

Yup food is also my undoing Bro, especially with a wife that cooks great.

Actually we normally don’t eat after 7 pm, we try and have our dinner before that. I have been conveniently blaming my Lucrin shots for my tummy fat 🥴

I must, I will cut down on my calories and exercise vigorously... my new mantra!

Thanks Bro 👌

Let the wife cook as much as she wants to express her love for you. All she needs to do is to change to cooking stircrazy vegetbles with small amount of seshame oil or flax seed oil. Sprinkle some salt and black pepper powder.

Put some Ginger powder, Garlic powder and turmeric powder ,little cayenne powder with a cup of fatfree yogurt.

For stircrazy, she can use Cabbage, Cauliflower, brocolli, tomatoes and green beans etc.

It really tastes good and drops BMI to 22 or less. Suforaphanes in this food slows cancer growth.

Haniff profile image
Haniff in reply toLearnAll

LearnAll, gonna try this stircrazy thingy, and try to bring my BMI down Brother, thanks 🙏

Haniff

in reply toLearnAll

Yuk ! In fat free yogurt?

Haniff ? Wow that really sucks . Our matabolism is slowed . Cardio sheds fat . More exercise less calories is the ticket . I understand the syndrome friend . We all must watch this Haniff . Take care friend in troubled times . Hang tuff! 🙏🏼

Hey Scot

Yah Bro my BMI is too high. And to be honest my wife’s cooking is out of this world and it’s always hard to resist.

I feel I should watch my calories. Brothers here have been advising me about it. Point noted 😊 Back to the drawing board and onto Plan B 😉

More vigorous exercise and calorie watching.

I too love all foods. Especially those we shouldn’t eat . Your wife must cater to your diet now. It is possible . If she cooking and you’re eating what’s served she must control the ingredients to shed the pounds. I have skin flab that is near impossible to shed because I’ve lost 35 lbs from where I started . I lost it initially by following a diet plan from an naturopath dr. You can do it ,. But it requires very strick habits that are not much fun . Once in awhile you can eat just about anything. And you can have a cheat day . Just don’t over due it . I wait for the day that you post losing weight and feeling better about it all . Like you fast for Ramadan , incorporate fasting for good . Until you shed what you want. We might survive with apc for awhile but the heart health can take us for those we love as well . 🤙🏽🍀

She insist ! I obey but benefit , I never ate anywhere near this well before her . I was a foodie at times . Took a spin through Europe with a girlfriend and a Michelin guide book . Good times they were. If left on my own I’d eat cookies and ice cream often . Good to have a solid partner for sure. I’m very fortunate . She also a reiki healer and a loving spirit so I’m blessed in many ways . I got her . What did she get . First three years were hell for us . Mostly due to my not accepting my lot . Poor me . Thought myself a goner. You know what . We are all goners trying time extend our stay at this gran hotel . With the turmoil as of late , not and gran ..

Go on a keto diet ASAP ! Im Gls 9/10 , Stg 4 , on Abiraterone, Zoladex and Prednisone. Hv also been diagnosed with T2 diabetes for past 10 yrs, started Keto Jan 19, wt dwn from 183 lbs to 160 lbs, all diabetic indicators reversed , A1c dwn frm 8.5 to 6.1. Chk out Dr Paul Mason and Prof. Tim Noakes on You Tube for more info, it has turned my life around in terms of quality of life , not saying it has cured me of PCA, but I can manage it better with no more fatigue. I’m a firm believer in resistance training. Studies have shown that you burn more calories for hours after lifting weights. It also helps prevent both bone and muscle loss common with Lupron. I do about 75 minutes three times a week. But I go pretty hard. Three sets of 15 minimum to all muscle groups. Great cardio too if you keep pushing. I walk a bit but the weights is my primary workout and along with the other calorie advise here will really help you lose weight

Hey Schwah

Ok, going to hit the gym on alternate days and work on my resistance workout.

Schwah speaks the truth Mr Haniff! I have no fatigue or significant fat gain from Lupron. Up the walking in both volume and pace if you can and add weight lifting. Hard intervals are great too.

You don’t have to go crazy but the more you do it you’ll keep the co morbidities away, and you’ll feel and look better. Even if you’re hefty and not accustomed to it, it’s a must because of the muscle wasting from the low T that Lupron induces.

BMI is a flawed measurement because it doesn’t account for the percentage of body fat. But you don’t need a body fat measurement to tell you if you’re fat.

I empathize completely with great cooking by the wife being irresistible, but if she’s complicit in cleaning up your diet it can still be delicious of course.

Get cracking, it’s profoundly worth it!

Hmmm going to tell the missus about the Keto diet and going to hit the gym hard but at a slow pace before picking up the pace.

Thanks Brother

Two is better than one. If one is eating badly and enjoying it it s hard for the other to resist. I’m saying she cooking badly but you now need strict food intact , nothing bad . Together you’ll handle it. 🙏🏼🕊🤙🏽

Drink a lot of water every day. It should help stem hunger and help metabolism.
