On Lupron , Zytiga and Prednisone- MO wants me to go on Xgeva next week Because of bone Met. My psa has decreased from 500 to 2.2 .
Prolia vs Xgeva ? MO wants to give me... - Advanced Prostate...
Prolia vs Xgeva ? MO wants to give me Xgeva shot every four weeks whereas Prolia is every six months. Both has the same effect?
They are the same drug (denosumab). Prolia is used to treat osteoporosis in patients with high risk for fractures. Xgeva is used to reduce the incidence of skeletal events (fractures, pain) in patients with bone metastases.
Think of prolia as Xgeva Lite. With a metastasis and danger of fracture or spinal compression, you'll want Xgeva. Consider adding Celebrex.
Great drop in psa. I started prolia due to osteopenia from adt use . Our bones take a heavy hit in all of this . Good luck with Xgeva..I pray that this med helps us both.. good luck 🍀
How did you decide you needed it? Did you do a DEXA bone scan ?
Our MO says once in 6 months or a year is enough for dad now. But I want to make sure we take it more often if needed?
I’m on a test drug and test annually for bone loss, a dexa scan showed I’m in osteopenia after five years of adt . lost 5% this year , 15 % last year . If I keep it up I felt I’ll be slug like in few more years . Just trying to hang on . Cheers to you in this adventure !
I was given Xgeva for around 10 months until it started really lowering my Calcium level which by the way can really do a number on you. I have been on a Xgeva vacation now for 3 months and Doc has doubled my Calcium supplement so now level is back to normal range. I will probably resume Xgeva injection on my next visit around the end of March. Leo
Calcium so important now !😎
It’s good to see some flexibility in your Exgeva treatment. I am taking calcium pills plus calcium rich foods. Best
How much calcium are you taking ?
2000 units in the morning and 2000 at night
I go back to the doctor on the 24th so my guess is I'll be back to the 2000 once a day beings my levels are normal again
It's been four months since last Xgeva injection
1500 mg
1500
I was on xgeva monthly after bone mets then switched to quarterly because my annual bone density scans are good. See my profile.
👍
You can get a 3 month xgeva injection. I think the hospital charges my insurance about 11k. Sure would like to shop around for better drug prices. Need more competition.
At least the three month injection cost is less than a monthly one? And more convenient .Was led to believe that there was only a monthly one. Agree on the lack of competition
I was on Xgeva for a few months and changed MO's. The new MO placed me on Prolia as a counter to osteoporosis because I only had one small met that had been treated on my left femur. She felt that Xgeva was too strong and had a history of a higher increased risk for certain types of fractures, including necrosis of the jaw than Prolia. She felt the benefits did not outway the risks of side effects in my case.
Essentially, I understand Xgeva to be for bone mets where it actually strengthens the areas where bone mets occur (as well as overall bone strengthening) and Prolia is for bone strengthening related to osteoporosis level risk for fracture and provides a lower risk for related side effects.
I think you’re right. When I first went on long term Lupron ( 13 MOs) my RO put me on prolia to mitigate osteoporosis. When I later had a bone met he suggested monthly xgeva which I was on for a couple years . My urologist suggested I drop down to quarterly after good bone density results. That’s where I am now with no mets and undetectable psa.
Hallelujah!
