Strokes and ADT?

My husband had a stroke, the MRI showed he had several with bleed prior (in the last few months they think) to this one that we wrote off as ‘brain farts’. He is recovering, but heart dr. and neurologist both ran lots of tests to figure out why he is having them and results say he is fine otherwise. I googled prostate cancer and strokes and there were a few studies that say ADT increases the risk of stroke. I wonder why the oncologist would recommend the 6-month shots of Lupron; or would that not make any difference? He is having pain “deep in his kidney”, so they just did a scan with contrast to see what’s up. Should he switch to the monthly shots of Lupron?

There are basically two types of strokes -

(1) thrombotic type--- the blood vessels of the brain are blocked causing cut off of blood supply and oxygen to that part. .leading to death of brain tissue.

(2) hemorrhagic type: When there occurs bursting of small vessels of blood causing small areas of brain tissue death.

The thrombotic type is caused by clotting of blood problems whereas hemorrhagic type is caused by high blood pressure rupturing small arteries.

ADT plays a role if it disturbs clotting or increase blood pressure (like Zytiga does.

Side effects of Lupron are more when used as 6 month injection than 3 month injection.

Thanks, so no more 6 months shots. His blood pressure is fine, so that is perplexing.

Let them investigate if clotting mechanism is abnormal ? there are tests like PT, PTT, INR and many more which give idea about his bleeding/clotting system.

If I remember correctly I had a MUGA test before I went on zytiga to see if my heart was strong enough for the drug.

My M.O. does not recommend the 6-monthly shot of Lupron.

Go with monthly if possible. Otherwise the 3-month shot.
