What a long strange trip it's been! Old stats said a stage IV had only a 28% chance of making 5 years with #stageivpca . Finished my 34th marathon post PSA @ 555.2 and I was upright
During the race, my mind went wandering, so here is something that came to me out there. My apologies to The Beatles:
Was 'bout five years ago today
Had a damn high PSA
That could make one fret and frown
I ain't gonna let it get me down
So, may I introduce to you
No sex after all these years
Randy Kam's malignant prostate glaaaaand
It's Randy Kam's malignant prostate gland
We hope you will enjoy chemo
Randy Kam's malignant prostate gland
Sit back and let that damn med flow
What would you do if I had PCa
Would you stand up and walk out on me
Lend me your legs and I'll do marathons
And I'll even do them with low T
Oh I get by with a little help from my meds
Mm, I get high with a little help from my meds
Gonna run with a little help from my meds
My best to y'all and Fight On
Randy

Congratulations! Exercise fights cancer. I know a patient who is stage IV and does triathlon. Its twelve years now after his diagnosis. I hope for the same for you.
That is too funny. Just saw Paul McCartney in May. I'm sure he would approve of your new lyrics. Congratulations on five years! My husband is now 4 years 2 months and also is still upright! Fight On!!
Doc told me I have around 44 months last year, from his experience and what he's seen on the scans (Mets to every bone and Marrow invasion on Femurs).I took that info in, then put it behind me.
Chemo this Summer gave me a good result PSA 1386 down to 0.38 and scan showing good improvement in reduction of Mets and Lymph nodes, my Doc told me considering my starting point, I really couldn't of hoped for a better result. Pain is my biggest hurdle at the moment.
Seems the family bond and will power can be stronger than Cancer, at least at this point in time, no plans on checking out just yet
Congrats! I just finished my sixth year as gleason 4/5, stage IV and PSA is <.1 . Iβve also lost 30 pounds thru diet and exercise (mostly diet). Feeling awesome!
Dude - Great Lyrics but it needs to be put to music! I am sure someone on here is a talented musician and singer. I have been playing guitar for over 50 years but I still suck. Congrats on the Big 5!!!
Hi, I do about six marathons a year and usually I use one as training for the next. Fall is tougher, as it's hard to get in LSD(Long Slow Distance) during the summer months. For this Long Beach run, I did 112km(69.65) walk on the Camino French route in Spain in Sept. Check my previous post it.
I'm kinda low carb, lean protein plant based diet and I fast 16 hrs from 9pm to 1pm the next day.
I do Carbo load the Thursday prior to a Sunday marathon tho.
Regards
Randy
Make that five into ten brother .. you can do it ... I thank you for running for us all. Keep rockin dockam ! π
The impact of statistics on our lives is profound. We are constantly told these are averages and no two patients are the same but somewhere in the back of all our minds is which group will I fall into? Am I in the 28% or 72%? (five years) Am I in the 1% or 99% (ten years). "With new therapies and clinical trials, etc., men are living longer all the time!" Then let's stop using the damned charts!
Congratulations on getting past a very tough mental and emotional hurdle! I think a big part of living longer is getting rid of the stress of worrying about how long we will live! Lol.
