Still Undetectable at 60 months after initial dx in 2014 of 209 PSA with bone mets

Still kicking the can down the road battle brothers...I would have never imagined that I would still be undetectable almost 5 years in to this battle on first line hormone therapy (Casodex and Firmagon) and feeling stronger than ever. I ride my bicycle 20 miles a day, hike etc...The HT fatigue is mostly gone now or at least I think it is because the way HT makes me feel 5 years in, is probably normal to me now.

Added Prolia 9 months ago (all my past labs listed in my profile) but other than that still on the initial regiment I started with...Staying positive and hope to keep on keeping on for 5 more years and God willing many more after that...Keep your heads up and never give up

Wow! This is so wonderful to hear from you. Thanks so much for sharing your joy with this group. My husband is 3 months post surgery, there is still cancer (PSA .12) and about to begin hormone therapy in a few weeks. So great to hear a good story 😊

It is amazing that your PSA has not moved from 0.02 for so long. Congratulations!!!

Hi Poofers! Thanks for sharing. It's nice to meet somebody who would be that guy in the control group of some cancer study who ends up outliving most of the study group :-)

You seem to be pretty active and relatively young with a good attitude. May I ask what your diet is like? Are you working or on disability? Any other secrets to your success you'd like to share?

Thank you for the positivity Poofers— we don’t control most of what happens in this random world, and still it’s nice to hear about people who are having durable, favorable responses to available treatments.

I am only 60 years old and dx when just 55. I was super fit prior to dx and very athletic. A bit weight gain since, thanks to HT, but still active. My diet is and always was on the Mediterranean side with lots of fish , veggies ,olive oil and red wine. I always ate this way by choice. I occasionally enjoy some red meat but rarely. I am still working, not because I need to but because I want to. I also now realize how fleeting this life can be and always find time to take dream vacations between my monthly Firmagon injections.

I hope that we all can hold on long enough to benefit from the new drugs that are in the pipeline that may ultimately render this disease as chronic and we all leave the planet from an old age related issue instead of PC. Stay well all and as always my prayers are with all of you warriors

Have you thought about going on an ADT vacation (intermittent use of ADT)?

I'm 60 also....there are several new classes of drugs coming our way as well as a vaccine trial that should start within a year which had a 60% CURE--YES CURE--in lab rats...(Lab rats have all the luck !!!...LOL), but the reality is last3 or 4 years and plan on another 3-4 or more... Chronic Disease State is coming...

Personally, I'm trying to act as much like a mouse as possible. They get the first chance to try new drugs :-)

I ha e indeed though about a HT vacation. A tad scared to do it though since HT is working so well based on my initial dire DX.

I’m in the same camp sir ..

I have been on Firmagon or Eligard for 2.5 years and Xtandi for 9 months. Side effects for me have been pretty rough, but I have been undetectable for 9 months now..... planning a drug holiday starting the end of the year (despite my doctors objections). Hoping I can stay undetectable, or close to it for at least a year without the drugs..... we will see

The side effects for me on HT are minimal so I'm not sure if a HT vacation is warranted

Awesome poofers ! This is the kind of news that we love to hear about . Keep on truckin.....🥳🥳👏👏

60 months....Poofers, an ND that long is music to my ears! I’m 53 and I’ve been at this since 50 and, so far in the ND camp. ADT is working too well for me to want a vacation until there’s another solid vine in this jungle from which to swing. My diet is like yours, just zero alcohol also, and I walk 8 miles a day and see my trainer twice per week. I had the 30 pound weight gain and now lost more than that and I’m lanky like I was I was in high school. Western medicine is a transitional miracle but I know diet and exercise is critical for our maintenance. I hope every day to get to a chronic or cure place and stay grateful for every day in the meantime. Keep on trucking! Doug

Congratulations on keep the bastard at bay. You initially had scans. Have you had additional scans? Mets also stabilized?

mets have cleared but I know the beast is hiding so I don't want to get over optimistic. This is the reason I am reluctant to take an HT vacation
