Very scared. Cystoscopy yesterday was unsuccessful as urologist encountered major stricture. Uro said very serious. ASAP surgery with anesthesia in a surgical center to repair. But very tricky & hubby is worried about catheter afterwards, other possible side-effects, & even long-term incontinence. Any thoughts, comments, advice, etc.

Surgery for major stricture in urethra post DaVinciRP (4/14) & RT (3-4/16)
I had an identical situation post DavinciRP and radiation in 2013. In my case the radiation did harm to my pipes I even had difficulty using a catheter I had follow up surgery and a sphincter placed in my ball sack.
The sphincter acts as a on off valve I hardly know it’s their.I encourage you to discuss with someone other than the guy who did the prostatectomy .
Thanks so very much for responding. It's a new urologist with a highly-recommended urology team located at the PennMedicine LGHCampus in Lancaster, PA. We moved from old location & old uro (whom I never did fully trust / care for).
We just got word the surgery will take place this Thursday (9/12) morning. I'm satisfied with that & so is hubby.
Thanks again!
Great luck on the surgery . Uro’s Are mainly surgeons ...And they can do some miraculous things ..saving our life’s . the waterworks must flow ..One told me that “ we are just plumbers . “. Let them fix him . Not pleasant .. They can help .. .. The urological aspects of APC are draining emotionally as well as physical . He will be better off than he is now .. Good luck .. Many prayers 🙏
How grateful I am for your encouraging words! It's the day after tomorrow & we're both nervous, so your reassuring positive reply means a great deal!
Thank you.
pinejogave- I've been self-cathing for years, it's getting tougher to insert. UroLift was no help.
What is the name of the surgery you received with your follow up surgery with the on off valve sphincter placed in your ball sac?
Sounds promising.
I had TURP surgery prior to radiology for PCa. Strictures formed after a couple months requiring multiple cystoscopes. Last April I began self catheterizing once weekly for dilation purposes only. While I thought it was something I could never do, I did figure out and will continue for 2 more months then stop. So far no strictures have reformed. It’s a tough cycle and you want out of it as soon as possible. Good luck.
Thank you, MBOY1. It is simply very scary not knowing what the outcome will be & what he (&I) will have to deal with in the aftermath. It's scheduled for tomorrow a.m. & I have to learn how to drive our new car. I was in accident in July in which old one was totaled & I swore I would no longer drive. But I'll have to drive him home from the surgery tomorrow because he'll have anesthesia. We will do what we have to do & hope for the very best outcome.
I do appreciate your response.
