Sore underarms

Has anyone else experienced sore underarms in dealing with apc and treatments? I am almost 1 year in and my PSA last month was .01. Originally 43 with mets to ribs, pelvis and spine. I have had radiation to my prostate and 4 spots on my ribs pelvis and spine. I’m currently on Xtanti. Overall I’ve felt pretty good. I exercise 3-4 times a week and eat plant based Whole Foods because ?why not? I take vitamin d3, e, calcium and b12. Last week I started Oxybutynin to help lessen the trips to the bathroom. Under my arms are sore to touch but no rash. It feels sore and sensitive to touch. Curious if anyone else has felt this. And I get 6 month lupron shots, due for one next week.

There are lymph nodes located there called Axillary Lymph Nodes.

I could be wrong but I don’t think it’s my lymph nodes. It feels more like a skin rash with no visible rash. My radiologist checked for signs of shingles and didn’t see anything.

Please let us know when you find out what it is.

Can you feel swollen lymph nodes there? You may have an infection. Ask your doctor.

I don't feel anything swollen. It's hard to describe, almost like a rash but no rash is showing. My 3 kids do have colds so maybe something is brewing with me, and I've read that oxybutynin can reduce sweating so not sure if that's a cause either. I'll ask next week at my dr appt. Thanks for replying!

Yes, I have had underarm pain before...it comes and goes...itching....I am on Zytiga and Lupron--my PSA is "undetectable" for 10 months and hoping to go a lot longer....Also had testicular pain... If you do not find pellet sized swellings under your arms--indication of lymphadenopathy, then I would not worry. Even if you do have some minor swelling and it goes away, then again--no worries. You had bone mets like me....no lymph involvement...Correct? Here is where to check for axillary lymph adenopathy--see below:

Hope this helps....

Yes, a cry to stop ADT and return to normalcy....they do not like the "No Testosterone" Fly zone...

I was so shell shocked when first diagnosed that all I knew was it was in my bones. I don’t think it’s in my lymph nodes and no scans have said so but I haven’t specifically asked my Dr about lymph involvement. It may be something as simple as using new detergent, which I have for a few weeks. But I do think the oxybutnin I’m taking for overactive bladder has something to do with it. It does inhibit sweating and I exercise regularly. Either way I’ll ask next week at my dr appointment. Glad you are undetectable! Hoping for years and years of that for us!

I had an intense reaction to chlorine after I neglected to rinse off after a pool visit...started on my ass cheeks and worked its way almost everywhere I had less callused skin...I may have exacerbated it with an aspirin I took. This was all prodromal to my eventual diagnosis...and led to crippling weakness in my hips legs etc..... Resolved with a bike crash...don't ask.

My read is that there's a war going on inside us and the enemy has cracked our cyber codes that we're slowly figuring out... feeding misinformation that advantages us. Our attitudes are our biggest assets....tormented by the bombardments, poisonous side effects and constant uncertainty.........we must never relent, never give in...never surrender. Victory is in our time.

I’ve been on this adt castration train for almost five years . Lost all underarm hair first year . No more deodorants needed.. Only soreness I get is if I’m flapping my arms in activity because no hairs to cushion . I also still have my prostate and have only done adt and RT .. is your soreness just chaffing due to no hair?

Oct18 profile image
Oct18

I’ve still got hair there, though it’s gone from my chest and abdomen. It could be chaffing from running a few times a week. Who knows, it’s just uncomfortable, but no real big deal. It will just be nice to know what exactly it is, assuming it’s not something bad.

in reply to Oct18

I ve had so many random weirdness pains and other weird stuff with my body that nothing sounds crazy to me .. I was doing this pingshuai where you swing your arms for a half hour straight . That’s when I got chapped due to no underarm hair . if these are the worst problems we have we’re very lucky . I would think it’s from the running . My body and skin is smooth and sensitive like a women’s . I’m freaking Uber sensitive to any pain . I’m feminized in this respect . Although women have a much higher tolerance to pain . I m a pussy for sure .. no t almost 5 years for me ....

Amen to that! Everyday, something new feels weird, or aches, and we can only wonder what it is....the medicine, in my head, the cancer, etc...

in reply to Oct18

That’s the path I’ve been on also .😂

Some mention the ADT causes them dry skin...? I don't notice it myself.

in reply to Jbooml

I’ve got it . And my scalp is bad too .

Jbooml profile image
Jbooml in reply to

I eat so much oily crap...some not so good that I don’t have anything like dryness...except when Our temperatures fall off a cliff...which doesn’t happen as nearly as often...then I have to lather on the coco butter while I’m still dripping...works like a charm..but Octies soreness has to involve something more than just the skin...I have enormous respect for the mysteries of the human immune system that I would consider it’s response as a primary suspect when soreness is reported.

Another possibility is it's a problem with the sweat glands. They can get infected.

After 8 months of ADT medications, I have 2 itches I've never had before: #1 - Periodic (Avg once every 2 days) EXCRUCIATING scrotum itch. This was discussed in another thread. #2 - more frequent buy less excruciating underarm itch. Gold Bond Anti-Itch (recommended by someone in scrotum itch thread) works better than anything else I've tried.

No itching with the soreness, just sore but if it starts to itch I'll try that.

Thanks!

I’ve been on Lupron and Zytiga 8 months and have had “pins and needles pain but mostly an all over skin pain. It’s Kind of like I’m getting the “early signs of a flu. Nothing under arm specific though

Oct18 profile image
Oct18 in reply to JDKotter

It's a similar feeling for me too. The early aches before something like the flu comes on. And with my kids being sick, who knows.

in reply to JDKotter

The ol pins and needles .. I’ve got that type of neauropathy ..

I came down with shingles last month. It has caused tenderness and sensitivity under the arms like you described. Hopefully you have not come down with shingles. It took about a week for a rash to break out and now about a month later I’m still battling it. Actually for the last month the pain from the shingles has been worse and the pain from the cancer.

Hoping that's not it.

Wow! I am sorry you got shingles .. that’s terrible man 😫

Dumb question from me? Do you use a deodorant? Is it a different brand? I had this problem years ago before Pca and learned I had an allergy to a chemical used in some deodorants. Went back to using a deodorant, Old Spice, that I used in high school and seemed to be the same formula. Problem went away.

Oct18 profile image
Oct18

I'm going to try a new deodorant too, but I haven't switched yet. I have been using a new detergent. My dad stocked up at Sam's and got me a huge new detergent, and that may be the cause.

in reply to Oct18

Drop the deo...

Stop using deodorant. Let your rash heal then try something new labeled hypo allergenic. If the rash re-appears, then stop using deodorant and take more baths...... been there.....

I agree with 'CalBear74' and 'gourd_ dancer'. I had to stop using deodorant on a daily basis because of irritation. I only use it when I go out and will be in close proximity to others.

in reply to E2-Guy

Me too . As soon as I lost my armpit hair no more need for deodorants 😂

E2-Guy profile image
E2-Guy in reply to

Actually losing my underarm hair due to the E2 is a bonus! My underarm perspiration problem has just about completely subsided and body odor appears to be a thing of the past. I don't even 'need' deodorant anymore...I usually just use a touch of cologne.

in reply to E2-Guy

I’m happy about that too for myself ..

I’m on Xtandi as well. No pain underarms to speak of , but an unseen itching in the front of my armpits. No rash but itchy. I apply hydrocortisone to it which seems to help a lot .

Best wishes brother....

There is sand in your drain alright ...

butt all that surgery is what is clogging it up.

Probably a little Dulcolax drain cleaner will clear that right up.

I had pain in one arm pit. Didn't think it was swollen enough to be lymph nodes and it just finally went away. As a side note, had rash from waist to neck for 6 months. Certainly from one or combo of drugs being taken. It finally went away. An after thought, a long shot, may have went away because I took a few Claratin tabs. A long shot that I will try if the rash comes back.
