I will be having my first appt with a MO this week to discuss my treatment. Hormone therapy is being discussed by my urologist. I am wondering what to expect. Any comments would be appreciated. Also, bone scan shows at least six different spots, spine, ribs, femur & pelvis.

Thank you for your encouragement. My gleason score from the biopsy was 9. My psa was 31 in Dec. 2018 and 99 in Mar. 2019. Unfortunately my urologist told me in December not to worry that at my age 80 that I would die of something other than PC.
With that many bone mets in different placed I would say xofigo is in order, plus an ADT drug.
Lupron for sure. Xgeva for the bones. If you are in good shape perhaps 6 cycles taxotere. Or possibly Zytiga or Xtandi instead of chemo. I had extensive bone mets so did 8 cycles chemo. I've had worse times at the dentist than I did doing the chemo. Good luck. It will all work out.
Greeting Drphil1938,
We know you're 80 years old.... and you were asking about medical vs physical castration. Now tell us more about yourself. Location? Where you're being treated? PSA/Gleason? Doctor's names? All info is Voluntary but helps us help you and helps us too. If you will respond please do so in a future post (not here today and NOT to me).
Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

Each reply you have received thus far is from a great person on this forum. Forget the age factor. I think they would agree. The little bit of info I would offer concerns having faith in your chosen doc, eating well, since pc loves sugar, thus if you like candy or alcohol, you might consider cutting back as much as possible. Exercise- such as walking, swimming or your sport of choice if possible-is very good for the body, as is being mindful. Listen to your body (unless it tells you to grab a big bag of M&Ms and a bottle of vodka!).
No one ever wants to hear the word “cancer,” if it applies to them, not the affected person nor their partner or support group. Here, we all do the best we can to minimize its impact. Enjoy your life to its fullest! That is what everyone here will also tell you! The diagnosis is just a bump in the, road and there are changes in treatment being discovered daily. Good luck and good health!
I started with hormone therapy and wish I had just had orchiectomy at the start, but not even brought up as an option by urologist, and I was to ignorant to ask.
