So, thirteen months ago I’m at MD Anderson and bone scans reveal metastasized prostate cancers in bone and lymph nodes in hips - rib cage and sternum as well. PSA was 96 and Gleason was 4+4. Since then the cancer has been suppressed and PSA is negligible. This was accomplished by a combination of injections of Lupron every three months, two Zytiga daily, along with a daily dose of Dexamethasone.
However my weight has increased by almost 45 pounds and I still have the same issues with my prostate as I did b4 I knew I had cancer. My oncologist, Dr E, and I met last week and she has chosen to take me off the Zytiga and Dexamethasone while I remain on the Lupron injunctions.
Curious if this is may have been the same or similar experience in anyone else’s treatments and how things went once you came off the two drugs.
Also she is going to assign me to a radiologist oncologist to do 30 days of radiation. Since that’s in my future I have to return on Thursday for a pelvic MRI on the prostate. I’d be less than honest if I didn’t admit that I am dreading that experience. I struggle with claustrophobia issues along with carrying bad memories of the way my original urologist worked me over with the “device”. Any tips, advice, or suggestions would really be appreciated.
Thanks
OC

For claustrophobia, I would advise a benzodiazepine drug--valium 5 mg or Ativan 1mg should be sufficient to help out with the MRI anxiety. As for your MD's dosing of abiraterone--500 mg is not the recommended dose. Perhaps, you are taking it with some food. Some are taking 250 mg with low fat yogurt, etc.... Since abiraterone is working and you have mets in lymphs and bones, I would not stop the drugs...
The weight gain with ADT is a fight nearly all of us have to address. I used walking/jogging and weights to lose 50# while on ADT and keep it off. I am getting a personal trainer for the last 20#. You can try walking daily or if joint pain is an issue, then swim or water aerobics...easier on the joints...

I can believe a retired paint stripper, but no way a Northern Pacific Fisherman.... I''ll keep guessing: Professional wine taster? Shoelace tip manufacturer?
Am I getting warmer?
