Didn’t know it existed...but we are avid cyclist and watched Lance win every tour! With the help of this...

I’ll ask doc about it!

Ferritin can be confusing. It can be elevated because of iron overload, but in this case it is likely high because it is also an acute-phase protein & perhaps responding to inflammation.

Do you have blood test results for albumin, CRP ...? (inflammation markers)

He is a mixed bag of crazy this last month. LDH rose to 248 & CRP to .5 so inflammation, yes. SED rate still 2 but those 3 are trifecta of stem cells lining up when they all raise together.

hemoglobin dropped to 10 & RBC to 4.73. Anemic. For sure. ADT shot tends to do that to him. Bucerelin from Germany.

NLR ratio rose to 2.83 (2.0 is desired otherwise cancering.)

But the Nucleated Red Blood Cells...high at 230. Should be ZERO. That’s a new one!

NRBC probably due to infammation. Why was the test done? Hopefully, not merely for prognostic purposes. How will he be treated?

As I discussed in my series on inflammation: while inflammation is a side effect of PCa, it is a condition that can be treated. I use polyphenols that are all NF-kB inhibitors. Typically, one can take handfulls without side effects (exception is green tea, which can be rough on the liver.)

I have seen Nalakrats down handfuls & his C-Reactive Protein was once ZERO! But he is more focussed than I am.

With heavy-duty inflammation, I am interested how he will be treated.

Thanks, -Patrick

On Lupron- Xtandi adt here ... hgb slowly up from 9 to 13.4 now after 7 months of adt. Nucleated been zero all along, even before treatment when all bloodwork was failing. MO happy with trend and amount even tho it had been low to low-ish for most of time. Sounds quite different than what’s happening to me ... might be more in play. Not sure which adt you are using as well.

Near the end of my Lupron injections I had low hemoglobin levels and my doctor found my creatinin level was high. I was in stage 3 kidney disease. My hemoglobin level was 9.3 and should be above 10.0 . I went to a Nephrologist who had an anemia clinic. They gave me 5 I.V.'s of ferritin injections over 4 months and started me on Procrit. I get an injection every 6 weeks if I need it. My hemoglobin is 11.3 now (sometimes only 10.1). The healthy kidney gives out a hormone called erythropoetin. This hormone tells your bone marrow to have RBC's mature (loose their nucleus) and enter the blood steam. When you do not have enough red blood cells it triggers more hormone to be released. However, if your kidney is damaged or unhealthy this process does not work properly. So ask your doctor about his kidney tests (creatinin, BUN. and GFR).

Anemic. Was told to take vitamin 12. Vitamin 12 blood test came back ok. I can look at my past results, and see the slow descent. Figures up a little last test. Unconventional wisdom says the ribeye I'm having today should help. Enjoy.
