Cruciferous Vegetable extract

I have been fighting PCA for about 23 years now. I am on eligard since 6/17. My last 7 PSA readings are as follows:

6/1718 4.0 Start Erleada

8/18/18 0.6

9/23/18 0.7

11/1/18 0.9

1/5/19 1.3

2/27/19 2.4 4/1/19 Started taking 1 capsule Cruciferous Vegetable Extract from LF

5/2/19 2.4

PSA remained at 2.4 with only one capsule for one month. Sounds good but then I checked some of the ingredients and DIM was shown to have an estrogenic effect. Is that good or bad? Will check will MO next week. MO thinks rising PSA while on Eligard and Erleada indicates possible change to neuroendocrine cancer.

In my view, while elevated estradiol is pro-cancer in men with normal-low testosterone, estrogen is largely irrelevant for men on ADT (although a small amount is needed for bone health).

The phytoestrogens found in supplements used against PCa are nothing like as strong as estradial (how on earth do women tolerate it?)

I have used BR-DIM for well over a decade. Nalakrats too. Those who eat broccoli to fight PCa, are doing so because of DIM - whether they know it or not.

It depends on which estrogen receptors and in which tissues. Sulforaphane may be beneficial. Why did he jump to neuroendocrine cancer and not just hormone resistance? There are blood tests like chromogranin A, neuronal-specific enolase and synaptophysin that can provide a better picture.

MO feels the chromogranin A is to unreliable. I will probably go for my second Axumin in late May. If any mets are found he will try to biopsy to check for NEC.

That's why I listed 3, and not just chromogranin A. I don't know if Axumin detects NEPC (I doubt it will) - FDG might.

I will add these two items on my list to talk with MO on Tuesday.

1) The 3 markers for NEC.

2) Axumin and NEC.

Always appreciate your input. Thanks TA.

LifeExtension has a good cruciferous supplement. They also have posted studies that found that about 97% of the sulforaphanes are destroyed by microwaving broccoli as opposed to lightly steaming it and adding a bit of extra virgin olive oil to it before eating it. An interesting study I read a couple years ago stated that when mustard was added to broccoli it enhanced it's absorption. We know about black pepper, supplements derived from it and bromelain to help digest and utilize nutrients. A study or studies that Dr. Greger cites lists broccoli sprouts as the biggest cancer killer followed by garlic, spinach and raw onion. Kyolic claims that the way that their garlic supplements are aged increases garlic's potency.

Again, Dr. Greger citing a study funded by a non profit found that green tea, cruciferous, pomegranate and curcumin supplements did little to affect prostate cancer when even rather large amounts of them when taken alone. When nominal amounts of these supps were combined the results were quite dramatic. I notice that at least one of the prostate cancer docs has started marketing a line combining the four supps. The combo is also being offered a company. Funding the study ended of course, even when it was becoming interesting! A non profit can't take research as far as a drug manufacturer--$$$$$--you know. Think about it. Add some other supps to that combo on your own such as quercetin, resveratrol, fucoidan, ginger and so on.

Funny thing - I used to hate broccoli - especially the fuzzy bits.

Then somehow the idea came to me of putting mustard on it. I love dark mustards.

Delicious.

People who've known me for years now look at me either in amazement or puzzled - or both - when I order broccoli and some dark mustard instead of french fries. I've completely lost my taste for french fries (and most fried food).

Same sort of thing with spinach..

Wonder if my body was sending me a message..

So far I haven't conquered my aversion to cauliflower though..

My wife breaks the cauliflower into bit size pieces and roasts them in the oven. Its amazing how different tasting it is once it is browned in the oven. I'm not sure if she puts anything on them. She will also mash it and it looks like mashed potatoes. Does not taste like potatoes but is much easier to get down.

Well I get the TV Dinners with pictures of nice looking broccoli. But, alas, it is always just the stalks. And the cans of Chili Mac I bought from major soup provider has beef and pork meat crumble. What the hell is beef and pork meat crumble? Do I eat this? So glad it is Sunday evening. Off to taco truck. The cilantro is real. Radish, onion, cucumber, cabbage, lemon and tomato real. I think the sauce is real. The meat is not a crumble. Wait! It's Cinco De Mayo. Hope they aren't so rude as to take the night off. (I am just guessing cilanto and cabbage have got to help with psa. Hell, everything on that Taco is probably good for something. Except the cucumber. Cucumbers have limited uses. Enjoy.)
