New study below [1]. Posted because of the odd finding.
I can't remember when I last saw a reference to free PSA [fPSA]. It was a big deal 15 years ago, although many men seemed to be getting biopsies purely on the basis of PSA.
"The risk of cancer increases if the free to total ratio is less than 25%." [2]
So it's good for free PSA to be higher? Seemingly not:
"fPSA serum levels were {four times} higher in {Alzheimer's disease} males ... compared to control males ..." [1]
So there might be an inverse association between Alzheimer's & PCa?
From December (Korea) [3]:
"... Lung and prostate cancer risks were ... significantly lower for the AD group (HR, 0.52 and HR, 0.72, respectively).
Conversely, also from 2018 (Taiwan) [4]:
"... the OR of prior Alzheimer's disease for prostate cancer patients was 1.52 ..."
Why "prior" Alzheimer's? Probably because ADT has been associated with future Alzheimer's in some studies [5].
