Hello All- intro

Prostate removed at age 61, I am now 70 with advanced metastatic prostate cancer in bones and lungs. Been on Lupron for three months. Testosterone is low and Oncologist was surprised by worsening conditions on first set of scans, PSA at 7 and increase in some other indicator. Recommends docetaxel asap and a biopsy of my lymph nodes. I started care at Duke and am now at MDA. I have a perscription for Zytega but prefers I do not take that now as it may effect ability to enter some trials. I have no noticeable bone pain or other symptoms and am in good health and condition otherwise. Seems like I am in good hands but I wanted to avoid chemo if possible. Any input is appreciated. It is tragic that so many men avoid chemo. Especially with your lung met, it is the single best thing you can do for yourself. Docetaxel is known to increase the quality of life, extend life, and markedly reduces bone bain. Unfortunately, it's benefits and its tolerability decreases the longer you wait.

MD Anderson, Duke is excellent and a .2.5 hour drive, MD Anderson seems to be on top of Immunization therapies for our disease, but 5 hr flight. Just trying to get the best. I am going ahead with the Chemo from all I read here, i am likely to tolerate it well. I havent been delaying. The appointment and scans where 2/28, appointment 3/1, so working on schedule.

Immunotherapies for prostate cancer have been disappointing. Maybe one of the combos that they're testing will do better. It's not something I would put a lot of faith in at this point.

Going through Chemo right now, it's a walk in the park compared to the bone pain. I was apprehensive about the Chemo but it hasn't been as bad as I thought, third day get tired and have Flu like aches and pains for around 3-4 days then start feeling better. Oncologist said Chemo will help the bone pain so I went for it.

Lost my father in law to the same time frame . Get on a monthly regiment of tests so it doesn’t spread to rapidly without you knowing it. The monster is a awful sneaky SOB. Good luck 🙏🙏

Thanks so much for the reponse. Actually my PSA is 4.9, And I don't seem to have any bone pain. I qualify that because I have joint pain when I work out. Work out rather vigorously 3 times /week plus Pickleball.

Extensive bone mets and abdominal lymph nodes. Started my lupron and 8 cycles chemo 2 years ago end of this month. Xtandi 18 and a half months. Lymph nodes now normal size and bone mets subtle and no new mets. Probable bone scan in April - hope no progression in spite of having .2 psa and last alkaline phosphatase about 65 (may be other indicator you were thinking of?) Do have a page full of side effects but deal with them. Have seen CBD oil mentioned so much, I think I am going to give it a try. Almost 67 when started this. Good luck to you sir.

With soft tissue mets, hit it with docetaxel/taxotere as soon as possible. Shot mine right down.
