Josh just had his first Firmagon and Xgeva injections. 99.5-100.5 fever last night and today. Very achey and discomfort beneath belly button- not at injection site.
Anyone else have this kind of reaction? He starts low-dose chemo Tuesday, Dr Bob’s protocol. Check out compassionateoncology.org

I never had Xgeva, so not sure about combination. However, I was very achy and had a small fever (felt very much like the flu) for 2-3 days each time I received a Firmagon injection.
Been on both one year now it gets better. I get under the weather once in awhile but very slight. Hang in there it gets better. Leo

Have you considered Lupron? That Firmigon seems to cause local...injection site reactions , as well as the systemic ones you are experiencing.

Sorry about your pain. My husband had been on Xgeva for a few years and he always experienced pain ,& fever and hard knots at the injection site.
Our Oncol. changed him to Lupron mo. injection.

Yes, I have been getting Firmagon injections for 4+ years now and so far so good as PSA is undetectable. My doctor wants me to stay on Firmagon even though the injection site is sometimes painful for a couple of days after and I feel like a truck hit me the day after, also have mild fever after some injections, but not all.
The skill of the nurse administering the injection is also very critical. I found that if I pinch and hold the spot the injection will go in, while the nurse injects it at a 75 degree angle, not a 45 degree, as some suggest, then I have her hold the needle in after the drug is infected for 15 seconds, I hold the pinch for another 15 seconds after she pulls the needle out in order to allow the drug enough time to form a depot deep into my belly. By doing this proceedure, the drug does not leak into the outer dermis layer which is what I found causes the site pain afterwards. I also insist on the same skilled nurse give the injection every time.
BTW , I never had any side effects from Xgeva or Prolia, only Firmagon

My dad had that same reaction with those. His belly hurt so bad. after about 2 weeks he felt better. Now back to Lupron and now on Xtandi. Xgeva will be given again around week 6 or 8. I hope Josh feels better. Blessings!
my husband takes firmagon, zometa 1 x month and a steroid and chemo every 3 wks.
3 days before either treatment and for week after he takes Claritin and Zyrtec. . Don't buy generic. This protocol reduced his pain significantly, to our relief. hope it helps. His MO recommended it.
