My dad has stage 4 progressive prostate cancer with metastasis to his clavicle bone. He has had radiation last year but it didn't work. They want to start firmagon and Zytiga now, but I have a few concerns. He has Parkinson disease ( stage 3 to 4 ) and I am worried about the side effects . I feel if his testosterone declines, his Parkinson's will get worse. He is currently walking with a cane or walker and a wheelchair for long distances.
How much have you all declined with your function/mobility?
Do the pros out weigh the cons?
Thank you in advance.

Because they will use hormonal therapy at times with Parkinson's by giving testosterone. Plus , he is weak now and the side effects may decrease his ability to function due to the muscle wasting and fatigue.
He is 73 years old, we are in Rome New York and being treated by Syracuse physicians. He is getting a repeat PSA level at the end of the month and that will tell us which direction to go. As of now, my Dad says no further treatment and I will respect his wishes but I just want to make sure I have all my research done to present to both him and my mom.
Thank you for your response. Are any of his physicians Geriatric Pca Oncologist? Hopefully they are...You sure have your hands full with your Dad's maladies...I too would respect my Dad's wishes, and it's great that you are still researching what would be a good outcome for him. Remember God is on your side...
Hi suiter I should think that if his doctors are aware of his Parkinson's they wouldn't recommend ADT . I would ask them that for sure and maybe get a second opinion. I have been on Zytiga and Eligard for a year now and side effects are really not that bad. It definitely changed my quality of life but I'm still here. Best of luck and keep us posted. God bless. Leo
