He also has spinal cord compression with a fracture in his t12 vertbrae. Hes currently wheelchair bound due to compression. He has tried lupron, had prostate taken out, zytiga, xtandia, xofigo. Hes also done several rounds of radiation. His psa is in the 70s. The dr currently has him on docetaxel chemo. I was wondering if anybody on here has had a good response to this treatment. Thanks!

Thanks mark. That's very inspiring to hear your PSA numbers. Did you have a hard time with the docetaxel. My father is on round 2. Hes already lost 20 pounds and is so weak walking is out of the question. I'm just curious because his oncologist said before we started that this is a "milder" chemo. My mother also had cancer and went thru chemo but she didn't experience side effects like my father is having until like round 4. Thanks
Is he getting a steroid prior to chemo? My Med Onc prescribed Dexamethasone the day before, the day of, and the day after chemo. I also took Wisconsin American ginseng to moderate fatigue. Google Mayo Clinic and ginseng for their trial.
Med Onc also said to take daily oral B6 100mg to moderate peripheral neuropathy. I am still taking it. We also iced my hands and feet during Docetaxel infusion to mitigate peripheral neuropathy but I still got a mild case in feet.
Also I used Biotene products for mouth care.
How many weeks between infusions? Mine was 3 weeks with "normal" dose of Docetaxel, but for weaker patients, I have heard of a smaller dose every 2 weeks.
I also had small infusion of Aloxi before other chemo drugs to prevent nausea and it worked for me.
Hes gets the dexamethscone too but I believe it's only day before and day of. Like 8 pills total. They have him magic mouthwash for mouth care but hes still having terrible time with throat and swallowing. Hes get them every 21 days. But I'm not sure if this has to do with side effects he was also getting radiation with first 2 rounds of chemo. He has nausea meds and megastrol to help make him hungry but not very effective. He lives in a smaller town and to be honest I wish he would look into a different oncologist. But car rides are very painful for him. His oncologist never told him he had a tumor crushing his t12 vertebra. His pain dr told him and they sent him for emergency radiation. I believe that tumor with the neuropathy is making it difficult for him to move. Thanks for the info and support. It's much appreciated!
