My husband has been Lupron, casodex and finished upfront Docetaxel( 6 cycles finished in October). DX metastatic 2/1/2017 with PSA of 1044 at 47 yrs old. His PSA has steadily dropped to 2.4 as of 6 weeks ago. This week he’s experiencing pain in his back and ribs. Is this pain a probable sign of progression despite a responding PSA? What are experiences with pain vs PSA response? He also fell off the bed hard onto his side about 10 days ago I’m hopeful it might have something to do with it?
Thx

I had the same symptoms when I first started taking Zytiga plus Lupron seven years ago. In my case, it was some of the cancerous cells dying that was causing the pain. I thought I had broken ribs it hurt so bad.
Coincidentally I too fell out of bed onto my side but I also have a sneaking suspicion that my wife pushed me off since my wife doubled my life insurance coverage recently. I thought I'd broken a rib it hurt so bad. Pain was there for about 3 weeks and finally subsided, thank God. So it is my theory being the Great Theorist that I am, that you pushed him and he will be as good as new in 3 weeks. 😉 😉 😉
injury likely, I've been on lupron, and casodex, currently on nilutimide, all good thus far, back pain, some, otherwise 9 years undetectable, but the med s uggghh
That’s a big fortunate drop in PSA . I have these joint and muscle pains also. The fear is mets, but let’s not read into it that yet. “He fell” sounds like me. I hope his is not mets. This is the bad phycology of APC.
Just getting out of bed is a danger zone if one is weak or dizzy. Get up slow, sit on the edge first . I get up so much to pee every night, I’m usually half asleep .. It’s a wonder I haven’t taken a dive. I think part of being off balance is side effects from treatments . The other part in my case is due to loss of muscle and general loss of strength.. Hopefully with recovery after this treatment he can regain some of these losses. I get immediately better the more active I am. My balance is finally improving as I gain some strength back. My hope is for you to do the same.. Good luck getting over this hurdle.
Hey, yeah you guys need to set some MUST HAVES, up around you, you can't afford to get serious injuries, especially to major organs muscles or skeletal support system. Maybe a rope, rail or walker. Do NOT fall. TIME is what heals all kinda slow for us, but it works. Mind your diet but treat yourself sometimes, that can be just important for your reward center. Pay close attention to how YOU feel 30 to 45 min after you take meds or eat, that will tell you more about yourself than the doctor. And I found, that fasting from my meds a couple days helps as well because our bodies develops resistance to ALL, I repeat ALL substances at some point, with the exception of WATER. Cheers.
Wow that is an amazing response to docetaxol. Is the pain subsiding now? IMO Allens suggestionof 1 or 2 zaps with SBRT radiation could relieve pain fast, We all hope for a continued and long response.
He has had radiotherapy to that rib area before back in October, can he have it to the same area again? His doctor didn’t seem that impressed by the PSA drop. I guess he was hoping for undetectable which hasn’t happened he even said he expected a bump up after finishing chemo but it’s dropped twice since then.
My psa never went below 3 . The good news is it is continuing down. I read somewhere a slower drop is sometimes better, I know it was for me. What does his alk phos look like? Not sure how many times you can have rad to a spot, maybe others will comment.
It fluctuated in the range from 3 to 4 for about 15 months, Then 9 years ago when it went to 5, I feared I was history, and it just fluctuated around there. Today it is 123
