In what circumstances for prostate diagnosis is less invasive 3T mp MRI 3 Tesla MultiParaMetric Magnetic Resonance Imaging a good less invasive alternative to a) Cystoscopy, or to b) Biopsy?
It appears many urology specialists aren't up to date yet re 3T mpMRI
I believe the multi parametric will replace biopsy, extending the trend of avoiding unnecessary surgeries to avoiding unnecessary biopsies. One problem with biopsies is the sampling error, which results in doing more of them.
I had the MRI discussed. I would strongly recommend men to use it as an alternative and better solution to biopsies that are pretty much a fishing expedition. When I had mine, they found suspicious tissue. They then went into the MRI again and went straight to the area and took a biopsy. Painless. Luckily it turned out to be scar tissue from my TURP.
If your local place does not do them, I think it would be useful to (just) go to some hospital that does do them. Might even be good to select such a hospital based on the clinical trials it is conducting, or better, based on a key doctor that wows you. That way if you decide to go on a trial, you will be familiar with at least one place that will be doing some. You mentioned the Brigham. Dana Farber is right there.
