Workplace Challenges? This Resource Helped Me

If you’re having difficulties at work and you think they might be related to your ADHD (or you’re not sure), take a minute and check out this website. It helped me learn some of the specific ways my ADHD affects me at work, from memory issues to distractions to communicating with my colleagues & supervisors. It has also helped me frame conversations with my supervisor about what I need to work more effectively.

It’s important for all of us ADHDers to know that the problems we experience at work might NOT be us… it might be our workplaces, and there might be ways we can be accommodated so we can work better and be less stressed! (Especially if you live in the U.S. as we have protections under the Americans with Disabilities Act/ADA.)

Good luck, and keep being your awesome self! The world needs more people like you. 🥰

my ADA accommodations were mostly denied and not followed in my last position. I lost that position, but have found another school that greatly appreciates me as I am. I agree, that it is all about the environment. If you can afford to be honest in your interviews about your disability, it may be easier to find one that actually fits with your needs.

I'm so sorry that happened to you at your last position. It's the employer's loss.

I have not yet been open in interviews about my disability... seems like a major risk. Have you?

I have gone both ways. I’m learning that your honesty has a better chance to find the right position that understands you but less chance to get a job quickly. My last position I told them and then still got discriminated but my current job is amazing for my disability. It took me months to find it and I got a lot of denials.

My opener is half blind. He can’t hide his disability and has had similar experience; harder to get a job, but better chance of accommodations.
