How do you get the help you need? No amount of cognitive behavioral therapy has helped my ADHD. How do you get access to real experts that could help? Also having to do this currently with Medicaid (Wellcare) has made this even more difficult to get help. I have friends that clearly have ADHD but they aren't diagnosed, so I can't really get help from friends.

I usually get coaching support, usually its short-term or to get a plan. Working on Somatic has particularly been helpful for me to get out the emotional stuck that adds on. CHADD and ADDA have individuals listed, but I usually ask around, and do consults to get a sense of who might be good for me. Accountability groups have helped me too. Good luck!

How does one go about getting an accountability buddy? What groups? Most of my interaction these days is with doctors. I'm not able to work and most of my friendships were from teaching. I don't have that anymore. It's definitely a lonely place to be...

Try Meetup or searching Accountability Groups for ADHD online? I hear you! There are some very lonely phases.

My number one suggestion is to access providers who are trained in ADHD but also HAVE ADHD. I understand coaching is not covered by any insurance and may not be accessible, but there are many coaches that give a lot of free content - follow those folks - peer support groups may help also.

maybe find one coworker in the same situation and help each other one evening every week?

Not sure ADHD is a barrier to sharing help. I have some ADHD disenhanced buddies who are really helpful. The dilemma is how to set it up.

I haven’t had a lot of success with cbt either. I’ve been doing DBT and it’s more focused on collaboration and skill building. It’s more intensive and long term though. I know they take Medicaid, and most insurance, so I think they would take yours too. Downside is you must be there in person every week.

I totally get it—CBT didn’t work for me either. Have you looked into ADHD coaches? Most offer free intro calls to see if they’re a good fit. Many sessions are virtual, too, which makes it more flexible. You’re definitely not alone in this!
