Need a Counselor and Medication Advisor

I discovered I had ADHD about 20 years ago although it appears I have had it all of my life.

Now that I'm retired, it appears to affect me even worse as I am at a loss as to how to deal with it. Working was always difficult but it appeared to keep me occupied. I need help with medication and a Counselor to help me. I have the inattentive type.

Can you help me?

Thanks,

pruitt@ez2.net

Have you talked with your PCP about medication. Some PCPs are comfortable prescribing ADHD medication and some are not. If yours is not, you will need to see a Psychiatrist. If you are 65 or older you may not be a candidate for stimulants. It depends on your health issues and your doctor. The good news is there are other medications that are not stimulus they can prescribe. If you have Medicare. Be sure and check your Prescription Part D Drug Plan to see if they cover the medication your doctor prescribed and if they do if they have Restrictions and Limitations

Good Morning Bootskitty:)

Im 50 so i have another 30 yrs until retirement, lol. however, as a social worker, i consistently hear that people struggle in retirement.

employment, responsibilities, getting performance reviews, structure, interaction with diff people, problem solving,, etc etc… it gives us “ purpose” .

the downside of retirement is that we have to find a “ new” purpose. and that can be a really big challenge.

Physicians, PA’s, PNP, n NP’s can all prescribe any medication in the United States. If you decide to go that route.

Sometimes i take addy sometimes i dont, and the mg i take also varies quite a bit. it highly depends on what is going on in my life- my cycle, my stress, my responsibility load. Life isnt static and either is my method of addressing my ADHD.

finding a really good social worker/ counselor that can support you as you find purpose in retirement is SUPER hard bc we dont have a shortage of MH professionals, we have a shortage of what insurance will pay for in a timely n easy manner. Therefore, really good counselors/ social workers normally tap out n only treat private pay clients. I hate to write that about my own profession, but i believe transparency is best.

there are 8 diff domains of wellness. you can google them:) see which domains are working well vs lacking in your life right now, that might provide you with a raw compass to determine what areas in your life are causing u to feel unhinged. im sending you good vibes n hope your retirement years are fulfilling n meaningful❤️
