Flying from U.S.A. to Ireland with medication?

hi you all,

I thought I’d ask here, as there may be Irish people on here that can help answer my question. Or Americans who have traveled to Ireland with their stimulant medication.

Can I fly from the USA to Ireland with my stimulant ADHD medication?

I looked online, but haven’t found any specific information about traveling with my prescribed medication, besides having copies of one’s prescription, and the medication in its original containers.

I currently take generic Concerta (methylphenidate) and generic Ritalin immediate release (also methylphenidate).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I wish I knew for sure. I'd love to visit Ireland. (According to my family, half our ancestry is from Ireland.)

Here's a link for the US embassy in Ireland's webpage about traveling to Ireland with medication. It doesn't mention any ADHD medication specifically. (I don't think it mentions any medication specifically.)

ie.usembassy.gov/medical-as....

According to this page from Trinity College in Ireland, methylphenidate is used to treat ADHD there.

tcd.ie/medicine/psychiatry/...

But my search didn't turn up the specific answer to your question.

Thank you STEM_Dad. I appreciate your reply! I looked into the gov websites before I posted, didn’t find anything specific either.

I’ll make sure i have my prescription in prescribed containers and printed out etc..

I’ll check out that Trinity College link as well.

Thank you so much for the help!

PS - this’ll be my first time ever to Europe. And I’ve heard so many good things about Ireland and it’s people! Excited!

Here's a little more info from the Irish government, which basically says the same as the US Embassy site.gov.ie/en/service/5e814-tra....

I hope that you have a wonderful trip!

I just went to Europe this summer. You are supposed to bring just enough medication for the length of your trip in the original container. Bring a printed copy of your prescription and a letter from your prescriber with the dates of your trip and the purpose of the medication. I called the embassies of the countries I was visiting to confirm these were the rules before I left. Of course, on the actual trip, no one ever asked to see any of this 😊

If you click through on my user profile, I think you’ll find the thread where I got this advice. There are some good links there. Have a great time on your trip!
