starting on wellburtin

Hey y'all, I'm 29 and just recently got diagnosed with ADHD. never taken any kind of medication for it.

Popping on here 1. because I've been meaning to put myself out there and have some dialogue with people in a similar boat.

2. I just met with my psychiatrist and he's having me try a low dose of wellburtin. I was curious if anyone is on this or has been on it before and what their experience was? obviously my experience might be drastically different, but anything you would have wanted to know prior to starting it?

Wellbutrin gave me my life back.

Wow, that's amazing to hear, would you be willing to elaborate on how it's helped so much? I'm so accustomed to living life as I have, having never been on any type of medication until last year, so I'm hoping it will be that big of a shift

I’m also a huge fan of how Wellbutrin improved my life. For a while I was on an alone, and then after diagnosis went to a low dose of stimulant and a lower dose of Wellbutrin.

One heads up though is that my body needs to readjust when I restart it, and that’s usually about week of aches that feel like flu or like I slept on all the wrong sides of the bed. Super annoying but Advil helps and it’s worth it. YMMV.

Thanks so much for chipping in, how long did it take you to notice any shift when you started taking it? And how has it helped your life? I'm taking sertaline as well and have been for months for anxiety

I first started taking it for depression - moderate/severe at that time - and I could feel a difference within a few days. In terms of impact for ADHD though it's much more subtle at least for me. But so are stimulants tbh. It's less of, OMG I put on new glasses and I can see now! and more of 'hey, I just noticed that I used to stub my toe at least once or twice a day, and now I haven't in a week'.

I am on Wellbutrin and Abilify for depression. My psychiatrist agreed 5 years later that I have ADHD and recently put me on Strattera . The combination of all 3 seem to be helping me with my ADHD.

I was also put on Wellbutrin for depression/anxiety and found out later that I had ADHD. I used to be at such a constant state of near-overstimulation that any one thing could be what set me off with what felt like no notice. After 1-2 months on it, the constant state was calmer so I could feel the overstimulation start and address it before I blew up. Over time, being able to address things as they came made them less stressful over all. I used to get sick, vomiting and headaches, whenever I was too stressed. It would happen 4-5 times a year, now it's usually only once (hurricanes, nothing to help that and I can't move.)My biggest hiccup with it is that it lowers my appetite and I regularly forget to eat. It's easier on weekends when I have to feed my kid, but I usually don't have breakfast/lunch during the week, just snacks. I also have to check what allergy/heartburn meds are safe with it because there can be drug interactions.
