Increased Irritability- could it be medication related.

I have recently transitioned to Concerta now on 54mg and I like the improvement in focus and productivity. But I have noticed that I have become increasingly irritable. Am at home with 6 y/o in lockdown (Zimbabwe). Freelancing and Homeschooling. When I am really involved in my work and my son wants to chat, I will be hyperfocused I snap. Its happening too often for my comfort. What can I do..?

It sounds like there are 2 factors involved here. One, you are working at home - this is a big change if you were not doing so before Covid. Two, the medication. I tried Concerta but it caused blurred vision for me so I didn't use it for very long but I didn't notice an increase in irritability. Perhaps you need to set up some ground rules with your son about when he can and cannot interrupt you while you are working. He doesn't know any better. Also remember the Power of the Pause - before reacting to him, pause for just a moment and remind yourself that he is just a child and is not purposely trying to irritate you. This may help you keep your cool. Good luck.

I’m taking a combo of strattara and colonidine for adhd & high functioning autism because I’m so very anxious. Colonidine is really really helping my anxiety and outbursts, and the frantic revved up brain. Strattara is a non stimulant adhd medication. Just a thought :)
