Creating an ADHD group for young adults/adolescents

After looking around the internet for some time, I realized there's not a lot of ADHD organizations and support systems specific to youth adults, and adolescents! I'm 18 y/o and I personally feel like more tailored systems and programs would greater benefit young adults and teens in stages of transition (ie gaining independence and entering society)!

This is still just an idea! Let me know if you are interested in creating an online and accessible platform or organization that is focused on helping young adults!

Thank you!

I agree completely! Most are tailored for children or for parents with ADHD/with kids with ADHD but the stage we find us in currently can definitely be quite a struggle in general but even more so if you have to learn how to handle your ADHD

Hi just_ok! I think your idea is spot on. You are right — resources are geared toward children and adults and I haven’t seen anything like an online support group available for adolescents, who absolutely have unique qualities and needs. I will check with my 16 year old son and his 21 and 24 year old siblings, and also their therapists to see what they think. It’s possible that you could create a virtual online group by simply afdvertisong through this online network — there are adults in the network who definitely have teens who have add/adhd. You could reach out to any friends with and/adhd and also talk with a high school learning counselor (people who help students with learning differences) or college counselor to see if they would reach out to students on your behalf. Likewise with your therapist or psychiatrist if you have one. These professionals can’t give you names directly but they can talk with their clients, who would then contact you if they are interested. Through these channels you’d likely find at least a few interested parties and that’s a great way to start — small then grow it. You’ll then a moderator to facilitate conversation plus someone to maintain a database of participants, schedule meetings. And someone who can “host” a meeting if you’re going to meet via Zoom or some other platform.

If you need more ideas or a possible participant (my 16 year old son) please feel free to message me.

Thank you so much! I'll do more groundwork research on creating support groups and reach out to some people in my community first!

I would love to get my 22 year old daughter involved. She feels alone a lot because she has a hard time making friends. This could be a great lace for her to chat with others that may understand her better. We live in a smaller town and I have always been frustrated trying to find a group for her. Please let me know if it happens.
