As I have an extremely addictive personality, when I had a bad back, my Dr gave me tramadol.

3 year later, after faking situations, manipulating Drs and even threatening them, my body and mind was so conditioned with opiates, tht I would take 300 endone, 100 codeine, 150 palexia every month.

During the first 18 months, I Dr shopped continuously and managed to get 135 scripts for opiates from 9 different Drs all in the same town.

My attitude was always happier, I was promoted 3 times and even sent overseas to set up new business for work and I was always told I am great with people, but no one knew what I was dealing with and my addiction.

I was very aggravated at times when I ran out and I had to cover it at work when my abusive ways got me into alot of trouble.

My excuses were that my mother died, then father, then I was saying I was sick and even got sent home to rest. But I would use that time to find another Dr and figure out my opening line to them at my appointment because alot do not prescribe opiates first time seeing them. But my new found ability to cry on queue, was rather impressive but still maybe only for me a single script of codeine that did fuck all.

So even though all the Dr surgery databases were all linked and a few of them had notes that I was addicted to opiates, they kept on giving me scripts

But I pushed on, and over a year or so, my mother actually did die and guess what, as I was cleaning out her things, I found out she was also addicted to opiates and to my lotto winning feeling, found bags of opiates going right from endone,l and oxys, to methadone and morphine.

In 3 months, I had consumed over 2000 pills and completely wrote myself and my weight off.

Now as I ran out, I had a major problem due to the amounts I took.

After 3 suicide attempts, only a god awful week of physical withdrawal, I had to deal with and figure out the mental addictions and really needed to dig deep to find a solution.

2 years on, I am good:)

Who the hell is Practicing duty of care around this world wide issue?

9 Drs, all connected, all see my profile and notes and still I got 135 scripts.

Thoughts?

Congratulations! Addiction is such a formidable beast. I've been dealing with my SO's for the past six months (in his case, meth) and it's been nothing but heartbreaking. He does not want counseling or treatment or even to think about quitting.

Congratulations, that's so amazing.

Regarding duty of care, I think it highly depends on what jurisdiction you are in and what laws are in place there. I checked out your profile but didn't see.

Either way it's really too bad that was able to happen. :(

I, too, tend to be addicted, and it's straightforward for me to become addicted. Previously I didn't know that and tried everything bad to think of—gambling, alcohol, smoking. My addiction to drugs began after a car accident when I took strong painkillers, and they had a hallucinogenic effect on me. I took pills at first, then decided to try heroin (after a full recovery), and from that day on, my whole life was completely different. The constant nervous breakdowns didn't stop, so I had to pull myself together and get help. Scottish Residential Service(abbeycarefoundation.com/reh... responded at that time, and I am so grateful to them for that. Addiction is not a choice. It's captivity.
