I got my Masters of Social Work degree in late middle age, because I have had a lifetime of experience trying to figure it out on my own, and I wanted to able to offer more than just a friendly ear.
As with any other medical condition, the more you know about your particular version of it, the more choices you will have. You will always be able to say yes or no, but you cannot make decisions about information you do not have.
And then, once you have some information, you have to get busy: as my father used to say, "Pray like it depends on God, and WORK like it depends on you." The more you know, the more ammunition you have for the battle you are in...FIGHT!
