I realize I wouldn’t want to be around people like me.

I like people like me. I understand people like me, and they understand me, there’s a lot of beauty and joy in that. But if I had to live with someone just like me, well, I can understand why I’m hard to love up close. My mum once told me if everyone in the world was like me the world would be a mess. This is why I think I want to remain single forever. Does anyone else feel this way?

Listen, I wouldn't want to be with someone just like me either, because it wouldn't "complete" me in any way. It would double the struggles for the things we struggle with, and I wouldn't need the other one's strengths, because I already manage myself in those fields. People are different for a reason. If everyone in the world was just like your mother, the world would make no more progress that what your mother's mind alone would manage to do. And it also would be boring. The world's strength is in differences. ADHD is a mess, but can make people more creative and thinking out of the box, and this is essential for new ideas, progress and change. Chaos is needed for change. And we are the people who can get the positive out of the chaos. Someone else will be more specifically designed to put order to it, that's how it is 🙂

Some people are perfectly happy without romantic/physical partnership. At the same time, the shame that can come with ADHD can lead to thoughts that we are undeserving of love. As a partner of someone with ADHD who has heard those same thoughts, I would say don't give up on people and you may find someone who won't give up on you.

I felt that way too,... until the other day when I realized that ALL of my closest friends probably have ADHD too. They're creative and quirky and awesome. And so I'm still hopeful about having close relationships, I think we just have to find people, ADHD or not, who "get" us.

Hi mumhugs,

Sorry to hear that your mum told u the world would be a mess if everyone was like you. I do think the world be a great place if ALL was honest as yourself.

You are fearfilly and wonderfully made. Perhaps people are lazy and dont want to understand people like you.

I have come to realised that when someone is different it can easily put some people off.

Someone once said i looked grumpy, but then they dont understand what life was like and is like where im from. Im from a different culture and it was sunny almost everyday we hardly wore sun glasses, we dont open our eyes wide enough so the sun doesnt get in our faces. You do this for many years and it becomes your default look.

What im trying to say is, folk need to understand people like us, show us love and give us a chance. We aint monsters. We are fearfully and wonderfully made regardless of whats going on in our brain.

All the best lassie!

You have to start realizing that the World is better off with ADHDers in it. We are the Warriors, scouts, hunters, Shamans, the imaginative creators and the other 90% are farmers. Do you really want to be a farmer? I just found out today that two of my friends have ADD and dyslexia, I love them they are just like me! We rock! Thank God, we are all married to farmers!

Yeah! A little ADHD pride! Do you know twisted sister's song "we're not gonna take it"? There's this passage

"Your life is trite and jaded

Boring and confiscated

If that's your best, your best won't do!"

That life might be what some are looking for, but it's not right for me and probably not for many fellows ADHDer

Not what you're looking for?
