Hello all! Has anyone here tried CBD as a natural treatment for controlling ADHD? If so, what are your thoughts and did you find it significantly helpful in comparison to a prescribed stimulant?
CBD oil treatment for ADHD: Hello all... - CHADD's Adult ADH...
CBD oil treatment for ADHD
I’ve never tried CBD oil, but it is primarily known for decreasing anxiety and hyperactivity. So, if you are looking to control your symptoms of hyperactivity and/or emotional dysregulation, then it could be really helpful with that. However, I really can’t see how it could help with focus and attention issues, and those are a large issue for most people with ADHD. CBD oil seems like more of a relaxant, which might be the opposite of what you need if you are looking to improve focus/attention. Personally, I wouldn’t want to use CBD oil to treat my ADHD because it might make me tired, and slow me down even more so than my ADHD symptoms already do. I prefer meds that can wake me up or “snap me out of it” per say. But again, if hyperactivity and emotional dysregulation are your main symptoms, then give it a try! Everyone is completely different.
I agree. I wouldn’t recommend starting your day off with CBD. If I ever did, as a predominately inattentive type, it would send me further into the clouds in the middle of a work day. It helps a lot with relaxation and sleep.
If you’re having a hard time sleeping, which is interfering with your focus, I would try it.
Or if you’re having a hard time with emotional dysregulation at the end of a day.
I tried it.. all it did was give me loose BM’s, provided absolutely nothing else and I used it for a month trying to give it time.
no. it's not very helpful even with 1000mg doses.
My adult son who has ADHD tried 1000mg but for a different reason: his chronic debilitating migraines. It didn't help the migraine but he said it did help him feel a little relaxed.
CBD has been very helpful to me with stress and depression. But I only do this at the end of the day (before bed) or the weekend. Also, I don’t do it regularly, only when I feel like I truly needed! Other than that, it is not recommended to take in the morning especially to start your day! Well, it does relax you but also interrupts your medication 💊 (if you’re taking any) I say this from personal experience. I truly would not choose CBD as my regular ADHD therapy due to its lack of potential especially when it comes to the need for me to focus and stay on top of things. CBD will not be helpful in my opinion rather than just a method of relaxation used.
Thank you for sharing your personal experience. I definitely still need to be productive so this may be a good night time/weekend supplement.
UPDATE - the CBD is PERFECT for helping me regulate my moods and emotions. I feel a sense of calm with it, but I would not ditch my stimulant for it because I NEED to focus and be on task. So it’s something that’ll work great as an addition to my current treatment.
Before I knew I had adhd (predom. Inattentive) I used CBD regularly but it didn't make a significant enough difference in anything (I just knew I felt "off"). So, I stopped using it because I'd have to use a lot just to feel any sort of affect which only lasted 10-20 mins.
Thanks RCJH8610 for updating on the post!
I'm curious if there's anyone out there who uses CBD as part of their management strategy after identifying that stimulant medications didn't help ?
